How do you save an image of the screen?

A screenshot.

Operating System is always a plus when describing a problem.

I am guessing Windows based operating system so in this case the key you want to use is PrtSc or Print Screen key. Press that when you have a the desktop (minus sensitive items) than open up Paint, IfranView, XnView, ** cetera and press CTRL+V or right click and left click Paste. Image is now in Image program, save it and upload it. Use Jpeg or PNG for an image type.

XnView is pretty good and is a free image manipulation program.
Another is GIMP, Paint .NET and some others.

I used to use GIMP, but then I downloaded the latest version of photoshop. So I use that or paint. Still learning how to use photoshop though. I suck at image editing and graphics design and things like that. Yes I am using windows. Thanks for the help. I knew the PrtScrn thing, but couldn't for the life of me remember how to save it.

It is just like copying and pasting text except you do it with Print Screen and CTRL+V to paste it into a new blank image.

And don't mention it, it is what I do when I can.

just press prtsc and go to pain and go to edit > paste

Or, if you're just looking to take a screenshot of a single window, it's ALT+PrintScr
