We got a video of Windows 7. It seems touch is in mouse is out...

I'm sad

Are you surprised? Anything Apple does instantaneously becomes what's "in."

Are we forgetting Microsoft Surface was in development before Apple had an iPhone on a design board's idea. Microsoft is usually the first ones to come up the idea, Apple takes the idea goes to be the first one to market so they can claim it as their own. Windows Desktop Search anyone? Yahoo widgets?

I think there will still be Mouse support but Touch combined with Surface will probably be the new way PCs are heading.

The ideas behind touch are cool I suppose. However, I much prefer the idea behind "tactile response" instead of guessing as to whether or not your actions are going to have an effect. I just don't see the benefits to it for everyday computer use. All it's going to do is make computers and software more expensive to manufacture, maintain, repair and ultimately buy.

I think it's stupid.

I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.[/

The mouse will not be out. I don't see people magically thinking they don't like mice anymore. I know I still love them. Also speculating Windows 7 features this early is pointless, they'll cut ten times before it's every released. I'm happy with XP now, maybe I'll upgrade to Vista when 7 comes out. =P

I find mice more precise to handle when say using Photoshop.

Looks like Microsoft Surface and Windows are coming together to make a cool OS.

You know, they could make it so that there is an option to use a mouse in it.. People who'd want to play games would need a mouse, so I can't see Microsoft making it obsolete yet.

actually you could play FPS without a mouse. Drag your finger to aim, push down your palm to shoot or something like that

The thought that the features I use in new OS's are dictated by Apple consumers is enough to make me want to kill my self now. I suppose it could be useful in some applications but the fact the Microsoft keeps trying to sell this trendy **** proves that Apple/its consumers have a large influence on Microsoft. Seriously Microsoft, stop this bull****.

Yeah I'd rather not use touch to play a FPS. There's too much surface area on a screen to be able to react with your fingers quickly enough. I'll keep my mouse. The Wii-mote is awesome with FPSs though lol.

Just for the record I doubt that most of us will get to even use the multi-touch features because you would need to own a touch screen monitor first of all and computer makers (Dell, HP, Compac, etc.) would need to jump aboard and start shipping touch screen monitors with new computer purchases.

I really don't think there is all of a sudden going to be a large number of touch screen monitors the minute Windows 7 is released. It's not just Microsoft made it so it's going to be added. There needs to be hardware support as well.

Hardware support will come if it looks promising. It doesn't look like anything I'd personally want to have at home, though it does look cool. I could see it getting old and annoying afte I while. Using a mouse requires no energy and it's very efficient and quick. Multi-touch is not always so effective. Then again, having multi-touch will give us many different features that are not currently present. Either way, it'll be a huge change.

Also you do need to realize Windows 7 is still some years off, that leaves plenty of time for the hardware to get there.

I would say being able to touch exactly where you want to would be more precise than a mouse, especially in Photoshop. Drawing lines and such would also be much easier.

Really? I think using a mouse would be much easier. It enables you to have pin-point precision, especially when using the pen tool and/or extracting. Using your finger just wouldn't cut it.

I agree that a mouse is much more precise than a finger. First of all if you wanted to make your brush a smaller pixel size pointing your fat finger onto a screen would make it more difficult to place the pixel accurately.

Also if you think about it all these programs you're envisioning having multi-touch support would all have to be recoded to support gestures which might (A) take a while or (B) never be done. At the very least you'd need to buy the latest version of the software

I agree.. Need a mouse for FPS but you can use the touch if need be. Makes for easier targets
