I'm thinking of upgrading my video card by next week.
My Price Range is: $100-$150 mainly.. and don't want any rebates in it. right now my choices are mainly: VisionTek HD3870 512mb OC edition for $130-10% coupon=about $118+tax no rebate next week in BestBuy. 8800gt, requiring rebate, can't get in store for cheap. Those are mostly my two options at this moment. I'm upgrading from Diamond MM HD2600xt 512mb GDDR3 computer spec: AMD 4800+ x2 2.5ghz, 2gb ram, 500w psu, 250gb hard drive, ECS NFORCE6M-A mobo or something like that and the video card HD2600xt...

The 8800GT is definitely faster. I have an HD3850 which is almost as fast as the HD3870 and I only bought it because it was 100 dollars cheaper than the 8800GT. Now that they are in similar price rangers, get the 8800GT.

I suggest the 8800GT as well since it has a clear record of beating the 3870 in Video Card reviews. Plus its price has made it quite affordable now. Knowing Best Buy though they don't stay too competitive in that area and charge higher prices on some things.
Though it really doesn't matter what I type though, I think you already made up your mind on the 3870, which is a good card if you overclock it a little to get its actual potential.

Well problem with buying 880gt is that i don't have enough cash and all of them require rebate and stuff.. BestBuy don't sell those 8800gt for cheap.. Fry's rebates never come back to me most of the time.. so i give up on rebates mainly. I read a benchmark or whatever.. 3870 did better than 8800gt in single task or whatever it was called >.< but in multi it lost by a lot >.<

At any rate, I would recommend the 8800 by leaps and bounds over the hd3870.

If you can deal with sending in a mail in rebate this one is down to 155
the reviews I saw on the 8800GT series made this line an obvious choice. This card is factory overclocked and the benchmark tests I reviewed, it had the best ratings for each test performed. Also, if you can help it I would avoid buying from bestbuy, or atleast wait until after you check for similar products online. Usually you can save yourself a lot of money that way. |

Yeah, BB loves to jack up the prices on their subpar selection of hardware. I would shop at Newegg.com. It is awesome.
I built a computer for a friend with a 8800GT and he loves it. It can play anything he throws at it. I haven't seen it in action, but if it runs anything like my 8800GTX, then it is one hell of a card.

I've only tested COD4, and my brother has played age of conan on the 8800GT and both games have run every setting maxed with no graphics lag. both of us upgraded from the 8600GTS we initially had and its a huge step up.
