go through newegg and buy.com.. i would recommend u getting a 8800gts or 8800 gt since those range from $100-$150 now. rams about $40 for 2gb w/o rebate.
edit: i wouldn't recommend getting a cool case.. its only for look.. nothing special.. i rather spend the rest for parts or save it up instead of getting a cool/expensive case. ATI video card isn't that bad.. if your a gamer.. i would say go witih ATI 3870x2 or 9800x2.. which those range from $400-$600.. for most people... 3870 from ATI or 8800GT from NVIDIA is enough... which those both range from $100-$200. for CPU... AMD isn't bad at all now.. mostly same.. if you don't need overclocking. AMD quad-core is cheaper than Intel Quad-core by a lot.

I will say a good place to look is on Newegg.com, just look through reviews, they have great prices. Most items have 50+ reviews so you will have a good idea of how good something will perform.

heres my 2 cents go with 3 gigs of ram get a mother board with a decent amount of usb ports get an intel core 2 duo 2 ghz get the new nvidia graphics card and i would use water and fan cooling also which os are u putting on it bc vista will slow things down and u will probly want an 80 - 250 gb hard drive then i would reccommend getting an external hard drive and putting all ure files on it and ure programs on ure comp so u dont slow it down then to keep it in top working order run disk defragmenter once a week disk cleanup once a week and an internet security scan once a week and if u google it u can download ccleaner and that will get rid of a bunch of other crap too

I've built many computers and I keep up on what parts are the best for what prices. I would recommend getting an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor, quad core, very overclockable. Get a 9800GTX for the graphics card. Start with a 320 or 500gb hard drive. That's a pretty decent setup to start with. Try a 600 or 700 watt power supply for all that.

Go to Newegg.com, or if theres one near you, go to Fry's. TigerDirect also sells good parts for cheap.

This is what I'm using
![]() It plays pong and minesweeper pretty well. Also does something about extrapolating the human genome? ... whatever that means.

Go with this for the CPU and the rest looks ok after a quick check.

or.. if you do have a Fry's near by.. go there on Friday's and see if theres any Intel CPU+mobo combo.. ECS mobo is mainly enough for regular users... thats what i'm using at this moment..

to me its all about the cpu and video card.. so i wouldn't really recommend any expensive mobo.. a $50-$100 mobo should be enough..
