http://security.itworld.com/5013/mac...27/page_1.html

Apple Macbook Air running OSX Leopard was hacked in two minutes on day 2 when the contestants were allowed to direct people to certain websites where the website ran a simple exploit code and the OS was hacked.

"The MacBook was the only system to be hacked by Thursday, however, the word on the show floor is that the Linux and Vista systems will meet with some serious challenges on Friday."

It is down to Vista and Linux but it does go to show that an OS's invulnerability comes down to not being connected to a network. Second a computer is on the internet and visiting websites it can be hacked.

EDIT

http://dvlabs.tippingpoint.com/blog/...ay-and-wrap-up

Day 3: They were allowed to install 3rd party apps to exploit the notebooks and Vista went down due to the Adobe Flash exploit.

Thus, its not Microsoft's fault this time but Adobe's. Same cannot be said for the Macbook running OSX Leopard.

Guess, the VISTA acronym that is floating around doesn't seem to hold up as well as one thought.

Not true, the OS itself still holds up the acronym. Just because you can choose whether or not something sends ALL your personal information, what you're doing, etc. etc. doesn't mean it's not a virus.

Viruses (Slow down the OS, and Vista is slow NOT all because of the heavy graphics)
Intruders (It can happen, just not easy to do. But since I'm nice let's say that one is a false since they didn't do it here)
Spyware (Sends information to MS in all of the Security Center programs like Windows Defender)
Trojans (Same as viruses)
Adware (This PoS is overpriced)

The only sad thing is most people won't know how insecure Mac OS X is. I mean, if you can hack it in TWO minutes, there are probably other exploits they don't know about. The only reason it isn't hacked is because no one gives a ****.

Ubuntu > Mac OS X(At least it's faster) > Vista

The worst part is is that my dad wants one. He seems to believe that they will make a second generation one with usb ports and an ethernet cable, then he'll buy it. I quote him," That was an extremely smart move," when they made it super thin, though it's really only super cool(if slimness matters, which to me it doesn't.)

Either way, I agree with vettexl, and my dad is about to get ripped off when he buys one.

This is why all the hackers use linux. So no one can hack them back. I am curious though, if the Mac is so easy to hack (lol - rhyme), why does no one make any virus for it. Is it a lack of interest, or is it just because no one owns a mac?

The reason is simple...attack the biggest target to cause the most damage. What is the Operating System on 90% of the computers in the world?

Why make a virus for an Operating System that only effects thousands when you can make one that effects hundreds of thousands and/or even millions?

Lack of interest is why no one creates viruses for Linux or Mac.

I've seen a LAN port fashioned in USB interface, but Mac fanboys wouldn't like to have random protruding stuff on their machines...

You can also use a wireless router to do the samething. Connect the wired lan cable to the router. Then broadcast the wifi signal.
