Angry VIRUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is it. the big reason people switch to mac's.
my unknown virus isn't found by trend micro interned security pro, or the free version of avira antivirus-on their highest level of scanning.
symptoms:no log out/all programs/search buttons on start menu. when u click control panel it says "acess denied by admin..." same with alt+ctrl+del.
"task manager access denied by admin..." the time in the corner of the screen is in military time and it's follwoed by the words "virus alert!!!" all of my non-removable hard drives don't appear under my computer, but d:/documents is still accesable via a desktop shortcut. and i cannot delete anything. help??? anyone know the name of the virus??? i think i identified a "YUR2.exe" as a bad file. it has since been deleted.

if you have the recovery disc, just reinstall your computer is the best fix to be sure the virus is completely gone.

Before going for the recover, try this: Malwarebytes.org It solves...just about everything. I've gotten some pretty nasty infections, and this will take care of ones the big commercial names (Trend Micro, Norton, McAffee) can't deal with. It's also free.

I would use Webroot Spy Sweeper. That has gotten stuff off of my computer that OneCare and McAfee never found.

Macs get viruses too and crash without them.

Eset NOD32 is one of the best solutions you can get and try to fix something before tossing the baby out with the bathwater.

A google of YUR2.exe comes up with a couple different viruses/spyware/other stuff...
Do you possibly have HJT (Hijack This)?

That sucks for you. What were you watching/ downloading that gave you the problem in the first place?

Well, my best word of advice would be do NOT use HijackThis unless you know what your doing. Just reformat, and use NOD32 with the realtime shield (Firewall). Install spyware terminator, w/o the antivirus tools or the realtime shield. This should keep you clean as long as you scan once a week, and scan files before you open them. Make sure your antivirus is updated regularly. To be honest though almost all antivirus are as good as its competitor. It all has to do with how you use it. You carelessly open files, then you are being irresponsible, and no antivirus can stop that. So really just be smart and use it correctly.

HiJackThis brings up every file that it thinks is potential virus, which is a lot of them.
Like Lax said, do not use it unless you know what you are looking for.

Eset NOD32 has real time scan, HTTP blocking and other auto-scanning features. Such as scanning your incoming and outgoing email. The solution that is worth paying every single dime for, in my opinion. Not only is it great protection, it is not resource intensive.

As for spyware protection, I didn't really use much outside of Eset, since they update to scan for spyware as well if you mark it scan for such when installing the program. Though a good supplemental program would be Webroot's Spysweeper.

Norton is better than you think. I got a number of infections, including Vundo.Trojan and it removed it like they were just tracking cookies.

Lucky you. >_> Norton is good at blocking strong stuff, but I've never had it remove much dangerous stuff. It also has a lot of system bloat, which is bad on lower end computers. About Vundo though, Symnantec had to release a specific tool to clean it out because the scanner couldn't completely remove it. Unfortunately, the tool is outdated, and as of July-ish this year the scanner was still incapable of removing it, at least in some permutations. I don't know which strain you got, but mine was nasty, and none of the usual Vundo warning signs like a hijacked desktop and screensaver.

I would recommend like above, back up your data, reinstall, and get a AV like nod32 from eset.com. If you're using vista do NOT turn off UAC, that helps keep you secure. UAC makes your admin account run like a limited account, and when something needs admin, UAC asks you for permission, so it helps secure you. If you are on XP, just be careful when using your PC, and I would recommend getting a new PC with Vista on it.

try doing a system restore to undo some of the system affects. Then try to use norton free virus removal software (i know norton suxs, but its definition update is worth a shot).

Good luck
