Default GPU Fan Speeds

I'm told that running a GPU fan at stock speed isn't enough to keep it cool...

I'd like to know what's the best maximum temperature with a full load? And what's the optimum % of power the fan should be running at?

My video card is this: Newegg.com - ASUS EN9800GT ULTIMATE/HTDP/512M GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

a real beauty. I'd like to prevent it from overheating without going to a liquid cooling solu0tion.

I've got an air cooling solution and i know this might get a bit...noisy. But, I've got some really bad ass speakers to compensate.

There's a fan on it...I just want it to keep the thing at a descent temperature...whatever that number is.

It's currently operating at 52C

52C isn't anything, compared to what most video card that has only 1 slot cooler. dual slot coolers are a lot better for cooling. if you really want to control your fan speed, download rivatuner, i think it works with ATI and NVIDIA, not sure for NVIDIA that much lol but works with ATI thats for sure. my card idles around 56C which it isn't a problem. if you get a HD4850, it will even run hotter unless you upgrade the fan to a heatsink and/or other coolers. upgrading the heatsink and/or other cooler will help it cool down a lot more.

edit: all i can say is be careful while using Rivatuner, don't ever try to overclock the card if you don't know how. This program will allow you to control the fan speed of the graphic card. Click here

52C is fine. I think my 8800GTX with a dual slot cooler is MUCH higher than that, and it is fine.

I've got a duel slot cooler...god damn it's huge. As shown on the product page it comes with ASUS SmartDoctor; it's a clocking/fan control app...and after testing it...it controls the fan properly...

The highest i've pushed it to - so far - is 57C (Mid 130s F) and from what you guys are tellin' me. I think i'm pretty safe with those numbers.

I'm still confused as to why the card runs hotter than the mobo and CPU (avg 113-114F)...or is that because graphics require more?

a gpu does require more power to run, especially when your running apps that require the gpu to be on. while gaming the card will get hot also. it isnt' as bad as my card, when i game, it can go up to 80 C which is normal also. most cards are fine if it is below 100C
