Try your warrenty this sounds like a hardware problem not a software problem.. Hopefully you have warrenty and if you dont tell me what kind of battery you used and ill try to find a cheap one for yah.

Actually, this strikes me as a software problem. It could be hardware-something short-circuited in the battery-but I think your computer is to blame. Best way to check? See if you can find someone who's laptop uses the same model battery. If it works, it's software. The computer needs to be able to talk to the battery, or else it won't run. If something is blocking it from seeing the battery, you naturally won't be able to recognize it.

how would this result of a software problem?
He cant even detect it. If he running 3rd party drivers MAYBE that could be a problem but its his mom's i dont think she would wanna mess with 3rd party drivers

Exactly. He can't even detect it. That's why I think it's a software problem. But, to be sure, it would be a good idea to try this battery out on another computer. And while I've never tried, a simple voltmeter should be able to test this theory.

I had an issue similar in ways to this. i had a toshiba satellite and the warrenty went out and i started having huge issues with my bios and whatnot, but back to the point the warrenty went out and you started having issues, call dell and start asking for real tech. help they should be able to help you but it sounds like your warrenty i affecting your software like mine.
