Default [Solved] Local disk drives

Well, I formatted my laptop like 2 times changing the OS systems and formatting it. And my local disk drive (D:) has 6 Gigs and my local disk drive (C:) has 89 Gigs, but everything I download goes to my (D:) local disk now I got 250 mb left in it, is there any way I can change it to make things go to my (C:) Local Disk so I can actually use a lot of the memory of my laptop?

Sounds like you forgot to do the most important thing in the format process...delete the partitions and make it all one drive.

Where you have things set to download depends on the program.

For instance, Fx (Firefox) has an option to save things to specific spot. Found in Tools>Options> Main Tab, middle section.

Internet Explorer is the same way. What other programs are you using? They can be adjusted to save files to the C drive and it just sounds like it is only the program you are using being set up to download things to the D drive automatically. A setting that can be changed ever so easily.

By the by, this problem would have zero to do with an operating system and just what the user set a program to.

Click Pictures for large version.

Step 1, left click on Tools up at the top. Step 1B, left click on Options in the Tools Menu.

Step 2, left click on the tab labelled "Main".

Step 3, look at middle section labelled "Downloads". Click Browse and set it to save anywhere you want it to OR make it ask you where it downloads each time you download something.

Step 4, click button labelled "OK" and you are finished.

Ya...it says all the files are saved to desktop, oh well thanks for the advice I will figure it out on my own or maybe if I use up all the memory it might switch disk drives.

Change it to C:\WhateverFolderYouWant, then make a shortcut to that folder on your desktop. It looks like Windows was installed on the recovery partition.

It is why I stated "Click Browse". When you click browse it will pull up a screen to where you can change download location. Pick a spot on the larger hard drive, click "Ok" twice, one for the Browse pop up and one for the Options pop up.

...and if unless you specify it to save to the other hard drive it will not save files automatically to the other partition (C even if the disk fills up. It will just tell you that the disk is full as it should. When programs start saving stuff automatically to another disk you will run into a major problem. This is why you must specifiy the new location by clicking "Browse" and setting it to somewhere other than your desktop because as Greg pointed...it sounds like the OS got installed to the smaller hard drive, more likely partition unless the notebook has more than one hard drive.

Laptops usually only have one hard drive. I have yet to see one with more than one, though I have not particularly searched for such. My laptop has two partitions (55 GB on each). It is actually one physical hard drive with the capacity of 110 GB. The two partitions can be deleted when installing the operating system (again), and you can create one large partition with the size of both old partitions. Unless you have a particular reason to have two partitions, you should just use one partition.

Well....I have exactly 0 memory left in disk drive D and now I'm trying Greg's method and seeing if it works.

After I did that. I tried downloading something and it showed that it was trying to download into disk drive D instead of the new location I put into disk drive C

I will post a screenshot showing what I mean.

I took two screenshots and put them on each other to show the space I had on each.
