The process of upgrading is pretty seamless and only takes an hour or two. The advantages you will have are pretty much well worth it but are not fully nessessary. I've never had anything other then ultimate on my computer and it runs perfectly and I can not complain about anything, expecially since SP1 came out.

Make sure your hardware will support it, unless you get a score of at least 3.5 or so on the genuine experience test I can not fully recommend upgrading.

Nah. you don't lose anything. all the software vista needs to upgrade is already on the computer. There are a few additional downloads, but it doesn't affect your system adversely.

Well, before you make a drastic change, it's not really worth it. Home Premium and Business have just about as much stuff as Ultimate. In order to take MAXIMUM Capabilities of Ultimate, you need to RE PARTITION, RE FORMAT, and THEN Install Ultimate. (Bitlocker can't be used on an Upgraded HDD)

To be honest no its not worth it. Keep your money and just download an application called TrueCrypt for the encryption. Then for dreamscene there are hacks all over Google as to how to add it to Vista Premium, but I have never actually used dreamscene other than the first day I got it. I thought it would be cool but it was just useless.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. My computer is not compatible with BitLocker, so I can not say anything about it. I use DreamScene all the time. I really like it. I think that upgrading would be worth it.

I love DreamScene and texas holdem and all the other little nifty things that come with ultimate.

I got Ultimate free through beta testing, but I think it is worth the money. My bro has vista home premium and has gotten a bunch of viruses and I have not got even one. Also, vista ultimate has the Ultimate extras, which is nice. It's not legal for me to say anything about it, but I recommend you wait for Windows 7. It is so far a much better system with new features, core, and a much faster start up time. Also, Microsoft is ahead of schedule and may be releasing it in 2009.

Ultimate gives you the following features that are not present in Home Premium:

Texas Holdem poker game
Ability for remote desktop to connect to your desktop from another machine
Bitlocker (requires a TPM chip)
Dreamscene

These features can be easily found for free using open source and/or freeware alternatives. If you spend that much money to upgrade without having a real need for those four features, your silly. I wish I had not made that mistake.

Ehhh, sounds like you've got an antivirus and he doesn't. Either that or he downloads lots of junkware.
