Budge: free - $1500
Screensize: no bigger than 14.1 Graphic Card: Integrated is fine as long it's hd video capable CPU: intel core2dual t5720 or above or amd turion x2 tl60 or above (puma platform is fine too) Ram: Preferably no ram, but 2gb for very low price would be great. ( very low price = $20) HDD: 250-320GB Touchscreen: Optional, but it'd be great of the laptop has touchscreen feature. Battery Life: 2.5 hours or above Time: Will be buying in or close to September 2008 to catch the back to school sale. Right now, here's what I can think of: Dell XPS m1330 Dell Inspiron/Vostro 1420 HP TX2500 HP TX2000 HP 2500t

Lenovo Thinkpad T61 14.1" with discrete graphics (NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M 128MB)
It will run you under $1500 with tax for some specs such as: Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5ghz 6mb L2 cache 250gb HD 5400RPM Intel 4965AGN Wireless Bluetooth Camera WXGA+ and more. Granted I like my Lenovo Thinkpad T61P. ![]() If you considered a 15.4" notebook, overall weight difference is minimal compared to 14 and 13, look at IBuyPower as they build using OEM parts. A Lenovo Thinkpad T61, Dell Latitude 830, Dell XPS 15 and HP. I messed with 13" and 14" and like my 15". Granted a person might not be able to lift that extra 1 to 1.5lbs (0.453592kg to 0.680388 kg). You could always consider a Macbook Air if you wanted to make toast and have a light notebook! ![]()

I have no trouble lifting a 5-10 pounds laptop as my backpack is about 30-40 pounds anyways, it's not too much weight to add. For about $1000 I can buy this: HP TX2500 Cpu: AMD Griffin 2.5ghz (I think) Ram: 2GB HDD: 320GB 5400rpm Screen: WXGA 12.1" Touchscreen: Yes Walcom Tablet with digital pen: yes Convertable screen: Yes Graphic card: ATI 3200 HD video capable: Yes Battery: 6 cell/2.5hour Weight: 4-5 Pounds Wireless: WIFI ABGN, bluetooth 2.0 Ports: 2xUSB, 2x audio out, 1x audio in, vga out, svideo out, expresscard, gigabit lan, modem, dvd-rw with lightscribe. Webcam: Yes For the same price, I can get HP 2700t 14.1" Processor: t9600 Video card: Geforce M8400GS Ram: 2GB Hdd: 320GB hdd Screen: WXGA+ 14.1" and other regular stuff I wil primarily use the laptop for movies, occasional encoding movies, write zune games, internet, occasional photoshop/coreldraw, occasional light gaming which integrated graphic card can handle.

I would recommend the XPS, HP's(all the ones I have owned) tend to have problems out of the box.

@RuntoHell - the 2.5ghz cpu performs close to a 2.1ghz t8100. The performance of the cpu is not entirely based on its clock rate.
@Gregory - As long as the laptop does not have any hardware problem out of box, I don't really care. I'm going to whipe computer clean anyways. I'm also able to deal with software problems and I can fix most problems myself.
