Ok, my Hp laptop is about 2 years old and with Vista it is slow as balls. (bowling style). Microsoft recommends 2-4gb of RAM in a system running Home Premium.
I have 1gb. I have found a pretty good deal on a 2gb stick at newegg. ![]() That's the inside of the case. Do I have to unhook one of the 512 sticks or what? Any help would be appreciated.

just take out both if your 2gb is a 1gb x 2. If your 2gb is 2gb x 1 kit.. then just take out one.
edit: just take out the top one and replace it with the 2gb.

its pretty simple.. as long as your Computer has an open slot, if not, then just take one out and replace it with the other one.. but be sure to be careful when replacing memory don't press it too hard on it if it don't fit right lol

take out the memory, put your new one in, start your computer
BTW.. there's no need to cover up the model number on your ram. It's not a serial number, it just tells us pros what the RAM's specification. btw.. the ram you picked is pretty expensive. $38.99 for 2GB is a ripoff. Crucial RAM http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...2&promoid=1060 2x1GB for only $28.88 I have seen prices go down to $9.99 per GB

SilentWalrus, grab two from Newegg and boost your RAM up to 4gb RAM.
Installation is easy and varies depending on the manufacturer. HP should have guide on how to do it. Lenovo and Dell do, so HP should have one as well.

"plug n play" is win =P i personally hate upgrading laptops because in most cases you have to unscrew like 20 screws just to put a stick of ram in. but if you dont mind it then props to you sir. either way ram is the best upgrade for any computer if ur talking cost/efficiency. it's cheap and makes ur computer noticeably faster.

Yet with SilentWalrus's notebook, it should be fairly easy since he already has access to the space according to his first picture.
He might want to check... http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h...&lang=en&cc=us ...to see if a manual for such a job exists.

most notebooks now only requires about 1-4 screws to open to get to the memory/rams.. but some of the computers like sony for hard drive is super hard to get to..

Anyways... opening laptops and totally disassemble it into parts can be a very difficult task for average people. If you have above average organizing skills and have a digitial camera (only if you're smart enough to take picture of steps you took to disassemble the laptop) to take pictures so you can use it to put it back together. Also, ram is not always the best upgrade for any computer if you're talking about cost/efficiency. For example: upgrading the harddrive to ssd or at least a decent 5400rpm 1.8" hdd in a ultra portable laptop will speed up the computer by a significant amount. Where as upgrading the ultra portable laptop with already plentiful of ram won't make much of difference other than wasting more battery life.
