Default my external hard drive

it was acting up, not holding the power charge it gets from the usb, it has 2 usbs one for charge, one to access the files it has. now, i was fed up with it not holding it as i tried to refill my zune collection to put on my zune real quick, so i plugged in the adapter to give it more juice, and then i could use it, well it got the light nice n bright to show it's on, but now it won't open and access it, my computer doesn't know it's there... it usually auto-plays..

so now it just sits there, with no power running to it, but still light seems to be on, and its hooked up to access the comp, im wondering do u think it'll just lose the charge and slowly die out and then i can just re-plug usb style and it'll work, or is like half my music collection gone now? lol

Could you explain it in a more efficient and comprehensible term? It's pretty hard to decipher what you're trying to say.

Try changing the ports that the hard drive is plugged into.
That works for me.

iomega 100 gig external hard drive.

hard drive worked, but kept turning off randomly (overheated?)
was trying to put zune collection in software to put on zune. (kept turning off)
plugged in v5 adapter to give it more power and stay on.

Now it just stays on without any power running to it, but computer doesn't recognize it.

OK.. when it turns off randomly, it's not getting enough power. When you access the harddrive, it use more electricity thus disconnecting because of lack of electricity. When you plugged in the 5v adapter, it stays on because your iomega 100gig external hdd is improperly designed so the power wouldn't cut off once it's disconected from the computer.

Also it doesn't make sense if you say it just stay on without any power runing to it, but computer doesn't recognize it.

Try giving it some power with the 5v power adapter and see if the computer detects it.

jacklou pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. if you still need help cause this wasn't fixed . you could either google ur problem with ur hd company name AND model number + known issues to see if it is happening to other people and if they have fixed it. OR you can just keep posting here and we can help you by googling it for you! haha. that's what itll turn out to unfortunately. hope jacklou solved ur problem though!

1.5TB My Bookx2 for me. Check your power settings in windows to see how long hard drives idle before turning off and set them to always on.
