Default [KAA] ?

So, a while ago I tried to convert a video in .avi format to .wmv format, using Total Video Converter. It was an OVA that I downloaded via torrent, and in the title it said [KAA]. But here's the thing, when I tried to convert it using this software, it said "Cannot open the file". I thought the problem was just due because of the video itself, because when I downloaded the same video but from a different source it worked fine. However, here's the thing. Today, I downloaded an episode of a serie I like a lot, there was [KAA] in the title as well, and when I tried to convert it it said "Cannot open the file" too. I've been using Total Video Converter for a while and I never had any problem like that except for those two videos. Also, I am using XP.

Does anyone know what that [KAA] mean ?

Could anyone help ?

Thanks ! <3

[KAA] is short for Kick Ass Anime, a fansubbing group. They don't deal with .AVI files. Instead they solely do matroska container h264 or some older releases were AVI but WM encoded.

[KAA] is just a part of the title and can be removed with a simple file rename.

By the by, what show did you download? I can double check to see if it is the matroska causing the problem or it is because of the WM encoded AVI.

For the first one, it was Cat Soup. You probably remember because you helped me for this one.

The one I just downloaded is named Serial Experiment Lain.

Thanks for your help !

PS : Your sig is from Code Geass, right?

That is the problem. They are not xvid avi files but WMV avi files making them more difficult to convert if the converter just judges file types on containers instead of looking at the actual codec used. Just like last time, you are going to have to try another encoder as it is probably incapable of reading the avi file as anything but xvid/divx.

Cat Soup was weird but good.

Serial Experiments Lain is just plain awesome.

Yes, that is Lelouche from Code Geass.

Oh I see, thank you so much ! I was really confused that it did not work.
Is there any encoder that you particularly recommand ? Should Encode360 do the job ? I can't seem to find this software, sadly.

I was considering watching Code Geass, my friend is harassing me to watch it.

EDIT : Okay, I found Encode360. I am going to try it, though I don't know if it will work. I tried Windows Media Encoder once and the program would simply not respond anymore as soon as I launched it.

Alright, I think it will not work with Encore360 either. As soon as I try to convert the file, it will just begin to convert normally, then after 2 seconds it will say it is done. Only the 10 first seconds of the videos are actually converted, nothing else...

With WM Converter, it starts with "Encoding : First pass..." then "Encoding : Second pass..." then "Selecting codecs, please wait...", after that everything stops and the status of the video turns into "ERROR".

This is disappointing.

Here's a slew of them.
Might I recommend Super?

Thank you for your help, Dizzy !
I actually downloaded the .exe of Super, but when I try to launch it to install it, it says something like this is not a valid Win32 application...

Gah, it's giving me headaches.
