Default A Good, Free Video Converter

It's called Free Zune Video Converter. It's a little slower than programs like WinAVI but works perfectly! It also does batch converting. Here is the link.

Let me know what you guys think.

yeah but it's free and it works. I'll give it a 4.5 out of 5.

Have you tried Handbrake and Staxrip for that Zune 80 of yours? How about WMencoder or Xbox360encode?

2/5 for me at least
- Does not have advanced settings
- Doesn't allow command prompt encoding
- Doesn't allow me to make profiles
- Doesn't allow me to add more codecs to support more files
- The interface looks horrible

Windows Media Encoder is the best program in my eyes.
BTW.. gow, Xbox360encode is actually the same thing as windows media encoder but with less options and less flexibility. It's 100% based on top of windows media encoder scripts.

Can't say that I have. Should I?

I never said that this was the best converter ever... I was just throwing it out there.

Look up the program called XviD4PSP. That software does tons of different formats and allows a lot of advanced options too. I think it requires .NET Framework 2.0.

I don't think I've found a single converter that I have liked. I have a bunch of House m.d. episodes in .avi, but I have not been able to convert them to be able to play on my ZUNE . But its all good!

Red face Help with Handbrake

I've recently begun using Handbrake (0.9.2) along with DVD Shring (3.2) both of which seem to work fine. The only problem I have is that I can't seem to get them to play on my Zune (30Gb) 1st gen. I have the latest firmware for the Zune software 2.5 and oddly, the software SWEARS that the converted file is on my Zune.

I've watched both programs do their thing in ripping and converting DVD video info into MP4 or M4V, which the Zune software DOES convert before it synchronizes, but for some reason, the player doesn't show me the videos. No screen grabs, no images, no references to the file whatsoever. I can get the converted movies to play on the Zune software player, but that's it.

Within HandBrake I've used the following settings:

Preset: Normal
Format: MP4
Video Setting: change from 1500 to 2000 (just 'cuz I'm a quality whore)
Audio: AAC

All other settings are left as default. But the things just don't show up on my Zune. I don't get it. I thought maybe if I just turned off the Zune for awhile, I've deleted my original video_TS files and re-encoded the DVD's and still nothing. Anyone with more information PLEASE, PLEASE, HELP!

Greatly appreciated in advance.

ONLY the Zune 80 supports MP4 and H264 video on the it.

All other Zunes (30,4,8) use WMV.

Instead of using Handbrake to convert them to MP4 try WMEncoder or one of the other freeware encoders to encode it directly to WMV.

Keep in mind the limitation for the device is 320x240, 30fps, 1.5mbps video bitrate and 320kbps audio bitrate.
