i just bought a new computer and stupidly i didn't get wifi built in to it.My neighbor across the street has it and said i could use it for free. What do i need to buy so i can access it with a good connection. The distance between my house and his isn't to far about 100 feet.I also don't want to spend to much.So can someone please help me?

Well first, is it a desktop or laptop PC. If it's a desktop I'd get a PCI card, they are usually more powerful. If it's a laptop obviously you have to get a PCMCIA card.

The hardest part is going to be opening your system, which is pretty easy. This card will just push in to the PCI slot. It's less than 50 bucks.

or go for a usb wifi thingy... but tell your neighbor to extend their wifi also.. 100 feet is far.. i don't think any of the wifi thingy will get the signal lol, you go pay for their wifi antenna extender and then go buy yourself a wifi pci card or usb thingy..

Yeah it depends on how strong their router is. That linksys I showed you does have a detachable antenna, so you could get a bigger antenna, or one that can have a wire to extend closer to the source.

Like I said, it depends. but you could put a stronger antenna on it. But 100 feet is a decent distance, so who knows how reliable your signal will be if you even pick it up

You could go buy that card at your local Best Buy or Circuit City, or any other PC store. Put it in and try it, if you can't pick up the signal you could return it.

pick up a weak wifi card, pick up a wifi signal antenna extender for about $10 and tell your neighbor to put it on their wireless modem.. lol that should boost their signal farther..

You can get a very cheap PCI wireless adapter, then change the antenna to something like 5-dbi antenna. Those antenna can boost your range up to 250-1000feet.

USB ones don't tend to have the range of PCI ones in my experience. But that's just my opinion.

Um.. the one you linked works with the AS-rock WIFI-AP motherboard. That's not a PCI WIFI card.

Alright. So I stand corrected, go with a USB one, then you don't have to open your PC up. Yeah that one you linked isn't PCI, jackluo is right. Good catch jackluo, that would have been a bad mistake. Look at this one right here, its USB and has a built in high-gain antenna, 8dbi gain.

This usb WIFI adapter is definetly a great product. The only thing that might bother you is that its size and its directional antenna. You'll have to point the antenna to your neighbour's router. Witht his USB adapter, you'll definetly get excellent signal up to 500-1000feet.
