I just recently replaced my motherboard because the sync/charge port broke and when i plug it in now it charges the zune but it no longer recognizes it as one. I have tried uninstalling software reinstalling it and same with all the drivers. does anyone know if there is something that i have to do with a new motherboard to get it to work or is there some hack that i can use to just make it a general mp3 player

Test the Zune with other USB ports and another computer if possible. The connection port pin that allows syncing could be broken. Also, if you replaced the motherboard did you reinstall the OS?

Oddly enough, I had the same problem. Here is a fix. Don't plug the Zune into one of the front USB ports. Also, make sure you have the latest firmware, that is very important. Then, if it still doesn't work, go into the BIOS and make sure that your Zune is getting enough power to sync. If all of your USB ports don't work, it is obviously not one port itself that is the problem. Try getting a USB hub that connects to more than one port, and then plug your Zune into the hub to see if it's a power issue.

Your best bet is using a USB directly connected to your motherboard.

Try your Zune with a different wire. It may be the wire. If it's the Zune, you'll have to send it in to fix it if restarts, or even hard resets don't fix it. It would be the pins on the connection port.

To check if the sync cable is fully functional, you'll need a multimeter. You can achieve the samething by using a flashlight bulb, the battery inside the flashlight and a piece of wires.
Multimeter: 1) switch to ohm meter 2) Test the 2nd and 3rd pin inside the usb side against the entire zune port side of the cable. 3) If you've tested 2nd and 3rd pin of the usb connector against all the pins on the zune port side of the cable, and the ohm number comes up as infinit or 0, that means your cable is broken 4) "" "", and the ohm number comes up as a 1-100 ohm, then your cable is fully functional Lightbulb, battery, wires 1) You'll need to make a basic circuit using the wires, battery, and the lightbulb. 2) make sure the light bulb lights up 3) "" "", and the light bulb lights up on both 2nd and 3rd wire on the usb connector, then that means your sync cable is working ![]() |

Sometimes it helps to just reset the Zune...
Press and hold the back button while pressing UP on the directional pad (and hold both for some seconds). This helped me to solve another USB problem... Maybe its worth a try. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Couple of the connections in the wrong place in particular the little pin bundle at the bottom of the motherboard. Other than that I can't think of any.
