i don't recommend over clocking 2400... those won't go by much.. i tried it on 2600xt on my... and it doesn't do anything.. doesn't boost anything even if you did overclock it.. o wel.. just go google ATITOOL.... its very dangerous to overclock just a warning.. and you need a better PSU(power supply) probably....

I would try Optimized drivers first than work on the overclocking using the ATI Tray Tools.

Two good driver releases are NGOHQ and Omega.

Overvolting, yes.

Um...no...the card will freeze up and cause a reboot going back to default settings OR artifacts will be introduced into the graphics.

The only downside to overclocking the GPU is that after a certain point artifacts start to get introduced, which ATI Tray Tools has little tests to show the user that.

Not to mention that Stuart wrote a tutorial on Overclocking a GPU in this very section.

Yeah, as long as you aren't boosting the voltage to the memory or the chip on the card you won't harm it overclocking. So go for it, try ATI Tool or ATI Tray Tools. Catalyst Control Center even has an overdrive section for overclocking if you don't want to install anything. Custom drivers are also a good recommendation too.

No offense, but a radeon 2400HD pro isn't playing crysis. Maybe on LOW settings. Not even worth it IMO.

Yeah good luck with that. I have an HD3850 512mb, and I only get about 30FPS on high. I'd like to see the frames you get on the 2400.

Yeah an upgrade would be nice. But there is no reason for him to not try overclocking it. Nothing to lose, and as long as he isn't overvolting it, it's safe.

Here's a really easy way. Download the newest drivers from http://ati.com and then open the advanced section of the catalyst control center. Click on ATI overdrive, and then click the key. After this, you can have ATI automatically set the right overclockings for your card, although they are not the most accurate.
