Default Video Conversion

i don't know if it's my pc or what, but i have yet to be able to convert a video to mp4 or wmv. i've tried just about every program suggested but they all crash after a few minutes, they get a error and have to shut down everytime. i got one, clonedvd mobile, to convert 1 to mp4 successfully, but the zune software crashes everytime it tries to convert it for syncing. other than that one, nothing seems to work. it shouldn't be this hard. i have been doing movies for ages and have tons backed up, but can't put not a one on this zune.

Heres a link to a bunch of freeware conversion softwares. http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/gen...are+converters

I personally use free video converter 1.0 from the list, works fine for me and gets the job done. I normally convert my vids to 320X240 .mp4. Always converts perfectly and syncs to my zune. Hope this helps.

i'm convinced it's my pc, but i don't know where to start as to how to track down what's causing the problem.

Try download this video and see if it works on your zune.

I've converted this video and verified that it works on my zune and many other from members of zuneboards.

that worked fine. it's when zune has to convert it or if i convert it with another program that i have a problem. every program crashes after a few minutes if it has to be converted to wmv.

I was thinking it was maybe a codec issue, but if can play a .mp4 file at all then that might not be it.

What Zune model is this though? Zune 30, 4, 8, or 80? Why convert twice if it is a 30, 4 or 8? Convert into WMV for those three as only the Zune 80 is the one to convert videos into h264 and mp4.

A good mp4 converter is WM Converter, free and does the job very well plus syncable right of the bat to my Zune 80.

Therein lies my delima....whenever i try to convert striaght to wmv with whatever program, it fails. i have the zune 30. i am able to convert to mp4, but when the zune software converts it, it crashes every time. like i said, i think it's my system, but i don't know what's causing the errors. my system runs great otherwise, so buying a new computer just to get zune to work is extreme and out of the question. i like the screen size and look of the zune so i really was hoping to figure out this problem.

Why not just convert the files to WMV and save the hassle of the program reconverting them and crashing?

http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/gen...softwares.html

Look at the section titled "To Just WMV", pick one try a video conversion pop it into the software and see if it syncs without reconverting the file.

I can tell you right off the bat that the Zune 30 has limitations on what it can accept.

1.5mbps video bitrate (no greater than this) WMV
30FPS
320kbps audio bitrate WMA
Screen size of 320x240

Use one of these freeware converters to convert the video file to something like:

1.1 Mbps video bitrate, 320x240, 29.97 FPS, with 128 WMA audio.

With this you might find that you have less headache with the software and more enjoyment from the device.
