Default AV Connection

Well, I don't have a Zune yet (no extra cash), but I was reading about it, and I saw that in addition to the left and right audio out, it also has a video out, so that, with the right plugs, it can be plugged into a TV. The article I was reading only mentioned that it could play photo slide shows and audio into the TV. Will it also play videos? It wouldn't be right to have a video cable that only plays photos... Also, assuming that it does play video, do the converted videos play correctly on a TV screen, or are they small?

[Edit]... And it seems I may have posted this in the wrong section. I don't see a delete button, so I can't do much about it now. Sorry.

Yes it will play videos and they will be enlarged to the size of your tv.

Thanks so much! You wouldn't believe how hard it was to find an answer as simple as that. I looked on multiple sites and couldn't find an answer, and then I posted this same question on another forum, but still got no answers.

One more question: how clear are the videos when played through a TV?

Here's a video I did on getting vids on your TV. Note: Zune 4/8 do not do video out. Zune 80 can do DVD quality video out (Zune Dock required, video must be encoded in 720 x 480dpi) but both Zune 30 and 80 can do video out from the headphone jack.

Its pretty clear, but it really depends on the quality of the video thats been encoded, so the higher the conversion bitrate to .wmv thre clearer it will be.

I updated Ace's post with the link to the video he did. It is a video of the Zune 80's video on TV.

+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

It is an AV pack version one review with Zune 30. Hope that is what you are looking for. The only difference now is with the new firmware the menu has changed and the video quality looks slightly improved.

yup, thats the one.

i'm getting a av connector cable through ebay, but no dock.. i can still do the TV out without the dock??

i think the only reason for the dock is to power the zune and to use the remote yes??

You are correct. The v2 dock is only useful with the Zune 80 because it has the component out. Other than that the Zune doesn't really need a dock.

From my experience with my iPod Nano 2nd Gen (bought before Zune), it is the same thing with iPods.
