Default ok what?

ive recently gotten a computer and i wanted to upgrade the RAM. the page that i bought said that it has 2 ram slots and can hold 2gb of memory.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...775&CatId=2663 (i know it sucks) so i go to crucial, and they say it can have 4gb, i just need windows vista 64bit.

Don't listen to crucial. If the mobo only supports 2GB, it only supports 2GB.

maybe it means each slot can take 2gb i think, and in order to get the most out of the 4gb,u need upgrade to 64bit os,how my laptop is,i can have 2gb in each slot but my os is gay and can only use 3/4gb of ram,if i get a better os i can use the full 4gb,and u should be able to ahve more than 2gb of ram,it is a dual core processor.but you prob not lookin into gettin another os,just buy 2x1gb ram at DDR2 PC2-5300 for now,ur pc should run well with 2x1gb ram, mine runs well with 2x512 pc5300

32bit OS (aka x86) can only utilize up to 3.5gb of RAM.
64bit OS (aka x64) can utilize up to Ngb of RAM.

Where N is equal to at least 32gb RAM that has been tested with a MoBo that can support that amount. There is currently not a ceiling on amount of RAM a 64bit OS can take.

Grab CPU-ID and compare the motherboard data with Newegg or the Manufacturer's website. Although Crucial's scanner is usually right on the money from my experience. The 5 computers I have tested with their scanner it reported the max RAM and correct RAM type for all 5.

The manufacturer of the motherboard and its model number will help to determine if the computer can take more.

Of course you could go with a 2gb stick of RAM and a 1gb stick of RAM but RAM runs faster when it runs in a dual channel mode. i.e. Identical RAM amounts in the slots.

Once you get that all worked out look at Newegg for the RAM you need because right now DDR2 Ram is cheap. Cheaper than Crucial. Just ensure you get the right speed the computer can handle.

With the prices they way they are on RAM right now it is just easier to get it and plug it in. After all RAM is the best plug and play hardware for computers at this moment but prices might start climbing to increase cost of manufacturing. Also, Doom is no longer the killer game, currently it is Crysis but I have a feeling that we may see that eclipsed this year by another game.

I have 4GB of RAM :P I can play Gears of War for Windows very well, but it pushes my graphics cards(ATI crossfire enabled) to the limit.

I need more powerful ones.

EDIT: They say Assassin's Creed will need 3 GB of ram.
