My Dad got me a 30G Zune for Christmas. He installed the new firmware for me and put some stuff on it for me. I got it Monday and I still can't install the software. I used the CD that came with it and that all installed fine, but it didn't recognize when I had my player connected. My Zune was saying to download the new software, so I did (2 hours on dial-up). I tried to install the new software, but it gave me an error saying that I needed something else and sent me to the Zune Support page. NO CLUE. My Dad is a member here and got me the SZIP by Marshillboy. I installed that just fine. When I try to open it, I get an error saying it has encountered a problem and needs to close, and that's all she wrote. We have tried installing with no anti-virus and no firewalls, with firewalls, with system restore, without system restore. Some idiot on the zune.net forum told me that I needed service pack 2 and then it would work. I have service pack 2 (windows XP professional). Could someone PLEASE point me in the right direction. I have had the thing for three days and it is practically useless. If I thought the player was just OK, it would have been sent back by now, but I love the player, just having a nightmare time with the software. Also, when I "turn it off" it doesn't turn off...it's like it goes to sleep, but if you touch the back button, it will turn back on. Does anyone know why it does this? I am concerned about battery life if it gets bumped a lot and keeps turning back on.
Please, please please help me out here. I am getting beyond frustrated with this thing! ![]() |

OK...my Dad is just as baffled as I am.
I will try using the uninstaller mentioned. You say just try the update and not the CD software...I can do that??? I will also try the uninstaller mentioned and and the SZIP...Wish me luck. My Dad is working on installing his on an XP machine...he has only installed it on a Vista Machine. I would just be happy if the Zune would show up as a portable device that I could drag and drop files to. I really would prefer to not use software at all. What gets me more than anything is that I am not computer illiterate...and it's driving me crazy why I can't figure this out. I'm no genius, but I can hold my own and usually fix most problems I have. Ooooh...so frustrated right now. Thanks for all the suggestions, guys...appreciate it. I will let y'all know what happens. ![]() ![]() |
