Hi Everyone,
I recently updated my Zune software, and suddenly I cannot get any wireless internet connection (wlansvc can't be started). Everything was working fine before hand, and the only change was the Zune software. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. ![]() |

I changed nothing in the network settings, but I was also one of the people who had issues with the Zune s/w first installing under Vista, and then recognizing the Zune 30 itself. Perhaps you could offer me a suggestion as to what I could have changed, so I can verify whether or not I had done anything? Also, interesting to note, is the fact that that Zune s/w would NOT uninstall using the Control Panel applet either? ![]() |

Well considering that I am running Vista over a wireless laptop and I have no problems whatsoever, I have no idea. As for uninstalling use RevoUninstaller its a freeware app. I still have a hard time believing that it affects your wireless b/c the Zune software does not alter or mess with your network unless you tell it to do so. Also keep in mind people will commonly say I have Vista and I have Zune and now I have problems so people will commonly mistake Vista for being the sole problem, and visa versa. This happens with all applications and it can be a combination of things as each setup is different. You have many programs on your computer and not all will get along with each other nicely. So just uninstall Zune before you point any fingers at anything b/c that will get you nowhere if you cant confirm the problem.

Well, I can confirm this for you.
Pre-Zune software installation, no issues. After Zune automated installation, no wireless connection. No other s/w installed or removed, no changes to network or wireless settings/adapter options/configuration. WLANSVC refuses to start, whether attempted forced via netsh (wlan) dialogs etc., or via the Services.msc panel (which show it still set as automatic, but which also show the service failing.). Also, I made sure that the people complaining, were having in fact the same issues as I was, in that, they lost access to their wireless auto-configuration following the installation of the Zune software. This, IMHO, has nothing to do with a Vista issue, but there is obviously some type of conflict which has occurred on my system, and at least four others that I know of. Perhaps the five of us have that same unfortunate combination of applications. I think however, that I have some reason to find the Zune s/w suspect, considering the installation issues which I, and MANY others have experienced. So, don't get me wrong, I am actually a very staunch Microsoft supporter, I love VISTA, and I love the Zune, but I also wanted to attempt to isolate the specific issue. That's also why I asked how I could have "told the Zune software to mess with my network"? What options could I have set/changed/configured during the installation that would have caused the issue? Ok, rant over, and my apologies for such a long reply. And sincerely, thank you for responding to my call for help, and for the heads up on the RevoUninstaller app. ![]() |
