I don't see why another brand won't work. I mean, it is the exact same thing with a different name on the box. As long as it says it does the same thing, you'll be alright.

If you have to get one, get one designed for iPod, though they do make a single pack for the Zune that is just the cable. Can be found on Amazon (maybe) but definitely can be found on eBay.

Every Av jack I have used with the zune has worked and I have 3 diffrent cables setup around the house, and I have tried quite a few more. So yes, you should be able to use a diffrent brand. I dont think ipod av cables work though, I think ipod switched the contacts on the ipod av jacks.

I have an orig. black 30gig and am having the same problem. TV is fine... im using off brand cables (Dynex) and ive tried both settings for the display options. Audio but NO VIDEO. Tryed on two TVs. just lines across the set.

ARE you sure we don't need cables built for ipod or zune? any updates for the zune? im frustrated!

Grab a Zune video cable and save yourself the hassle of trying to figure it out. Or if you feel you can tackle it... you will have to dig around to find, which ones work.

I haven't done much with this but I do know Zune video cables (just the cables) are available on ebay and maybe Amazon. They cost usually around $20.

I read somewhere that IPod and Zune have the same jack configuration, so IPod cables should work fine.

You can use other AV cables, but you have to switch the terminals:
The red jack is Video, so you must plug it to the yellow port on your TV
The white jack pulgs into the red port and the yellow jack plugs into the white port on the TV. At the end, none of the jacks fits its original color.

Hope this helps.

Heh heh. Not evil just tackling the problem best I could. I have the Zune 80 and grabbed the Zune v2 AV pack. The little dock is the only way so far that you can output the Zune 80's component video.

From the other answers it seemed most were getting either cables that half worked or not at all. I did see someone mention the Dynex ones, found out like Jan 2/3 2008 that she had video cables that worked with it. If I knew that I would have suggested them for the Zune 4/8/30.

As it stands only the v2 dock is good for the Zune 80 because of the component output capability.

Plus, not everyone can know everything all the time.
