Default MKV conversion

I just bought a 30GB zune and I love the thing but the zune software doesn't support all my MKV movies. I have had alot of problems finding a proper MKV converter and all the converters listed on this site require registration to do movies greater than 5 min, but they won't tell me if they will compleate at all either. I know VIsta has buit in conversion for mkv, but I am on xp.

You will need something that supports Matroska (MKV) playback installed. Like a codec pack such as CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) or others. Then it will depend on the converter. I don't know if a specific one would work but you could test WinAVI 8 and/or Cucusoft 5.07. Both can be found in the section Tools>Converters> of the forum.

I will also reinstall my copy of Cucusoft Ultimate and see if that works.

thanks for the help. I found one but I am always looking for something better. Most of the free ones are not entirely user friendly and the one i am using lacks the ability to covert with subtitles directly to WMV format from mkv. I think it is called media coder or something like that.

When I last used Cucusoft it would pull up the Haali Splitter in the taskbar and from that I could select the audio track and subtitle track if available in the audio file. That will be an added bonus if it works with the Matroska files.
