Default [SOLVED] How to set up more than two monitors.

For those of us who are either loaded with cash or need more than two monitors for whatever reason here is how to do it and its not any harder than just plugging in another graphics card, and installing some more drivers then a couple tweaks.

If you have an extra PCI slot open, you can add an additional video card that will provide one or two more ports. These days, most mid- to high-end desktop motherboards have two PCI-E slots, mainly so that power video gamers can tie two *video cards together to deliver super graphics power to a single display. You’re actually looking to do the opposite—use two video cards to drive up to four monitors—and you can, provided each card has the now fairly standard dual output. Both outputs usually are digital visual interface (DVI), but some older cards use one DVI and one analog video graphics array (VGA) output. Keep in mind, however, that many desktop computers ship with a graphics processor on the motherboard, and a single moni*tor port on the back. When you add PCI-E graphics cards to your computer, you disable that on-board port, and can’t use it as part of your multiple monitor expansion.

If you want to hook up multiple monitors to a single card, a company called Matrox offers cards that allow you to connect up to four monitors each. But these specialized parts cost more than it would to buy two separate cards.

Realizing that there is a market for consumer-grade multimonitor setups, however, Matrox has released a series of “2Go” modules that can split a single video output to feed up to three monitors.

The 2Go units work by tricking your video card into thinking it is connected to one large monitor instead of two or three. You can even game over the 2Go units, but since your video card will need to push the pixels for all your monitors, you’ll need a fairly beefy machine to be able to hit the frame rates you may be accustomed to on a single display.

... Or I could just use the multiple display settings in my Nvidia control panel for my 7900GT and get the exact same results for free. ...well minus the cost of the video card.

And yes, you can do the same thing from the Catalyst control panel.

Sure you could if your graphics card come with more than two VGAs, which doesn't exist so therefore no. Yes you can do TWO monitors off of one video card, but that wasn't what this thread was explaining how to do. It was meant to show you how to hook up THREE+ monitors.
