Hey folks,
You may or may not notice, but we have replaced our old Joomla based homepage with our new CrowdReport CMS system. We tried to maintain the look and feel of the existing page, but we wanted a better and easier system that would be perfectly integrated with Vbulletin.
Our system is a seamless integration of Vbulletin and WordPress that allows us to share discussions in the same way that the old frontpage did, but it also gives us the opportunity to select any member created thread and publish it to the homepage. This way, the best content from the community is showcased in addition to the editorial provided by our tireless news team.
Here are some other examples:
www.genmay.com
www.abxzone.com
www.fishtankforums.com
Also, comments automatically become thread replies and thread replies get published to the frontpage as comments....with full functionality of vbulletin's threaded discussion engine. This way articles can get traffic from both forum posters and those who like the frontpage as their entry point.
I would appreciate any bug reports in this thread so that we can deal with them ASAP. Also, we may do a redesign for both the forum and frontpage in the near future when we upgrade to the latest version of vbulletin. Maybe those of you who are talented designers can help by posting screenshots of your designs. We could have a contest and prizes as well if we have enough interest from talented designers.
All the old articles have been imported into this new system so no content was lost. You may see some weird characters in the text on the frontpage, but we are working on resolving those issues. If you actually go to the thread- everything looks fine.
Feel free to
PM me or Nurta if you find some cool member threads that are worthy of being frontpaged! One of the reasons we switched form Joomla was because it created havoc for us on days that we received huge traffic spikes from Digg, Gizmodo, etc... Since this CMS is built on WordPress with our own proprietary plug-in it is much liter and faster to load and serve.
ZuneBoards needs to get credit for the hacks and works of our membership and featuring them on the frontpage goes a long way towards that goal!
As Nurta said "It's far from perfect but all-in-all, better than the current system."
