Default Tricky 30g hdd replacement

Alright, this is gonna seem crazy, but bear with me.
I've had a zune 30g for quite some time, but I got an 80g ipod classic for the memory upgrade. Now, the ipod is crapped out, but the hard drive is fine.

So basically I'm trying to transplant the 80g hdd into my zune. Physically, it's the same, fits in the case, ect.

I can only format the drive from the ipod's board, as the Zune didn't want to recognize it at all.

When I had everything patched up, the Zune did it's whole reset song and dance until it told me to plug it into the computer to update the firmware (I'm using latest zune software.) It get's about a split second in before giving me a C00D124F 'not enough memory' error.

Is there anything I can do to make my little Frankenstein work?
