Default [SOLVED] zune 80gb firmware for zune 30gb

I own a zune 30gb and was looking around to see if anyone other than Microsoft had any firmware updates for it. It appears as though you can install zune 80gb firmware onto zune 30gb... Is this true? And if so, how can I do it?

You just install the latest Zune software and connect it. That's the only way.

No, not true. It's a completely different design. The PC software detects the connected zune, and loads the correct firmware.

I think what he means is that he has 1.x firmware and wants 2.x+.

Firmware is hardware specific, and the Gen 1 30GB zune uses a completely different uP and design than the 80's. The fact that the rev. level matches does not indicate the code is the same.

Hmm. Guess that shows me for assuming the reasonable explanation rather than the impossible one. Yeah, you can't do that, nor is there any reason to. There's no functional difference between the two aside for support for 80's added hardware, which naturally the 30 doesn't have. The only way to load firmware is through the Zune software, and that will only give you the appropriate version. No other version would work even if it could be loaded.

Solved and locked.
