Looking around the forum I realized ( a while ago) that our forum is practically dead (I can't be the only one). I think the number of active members and mods/admins are practically equal, and I can count the number of regular frequent-visiting members (i.e. not a part of a team) on one hand. You guys might not want to admit it, but this forum is going to be dead in a year or two, even some normally active people on this forum have been taking a leave lately. I haven't been posting much either because I'm practically talking to myself.
I suggest that we broaden the forum from a Zune board to something a little more general. This should (hopefully) increase the number of new members. I'm sure that this idea is going to be shot down, but it had to be said.
This was already discussed a while ago but nothing ever came of it. I put this thread in the website related section so that it would be taken as a serious suggestion. Something needs to change if we want this forum to survive...Our peak was in 2008 for crying out loud.

We have already tried to broaden are scale to Xbox and Windows 7, but not many people stay on top of that news.
The reason it's dying here is because Zune is dying. There is no news about it so people don't go searching for it. The peak was in 2008 only because that was when the Zune brand/product was the strongest.
I'm glad you're worried about the site, as many people are. But, it's not so easy changing directions all of a sudden to something else none of us know about. And, to be honest, we are all still holding out for another Zune to come along, it's never been denied.
I hope that answers your rant.

Then could we not change the name of the forum and/or domain name? I'm sure that marketing the site as a Zune specific forum isn't exactly a turn-on, and even a turn-off for iPod fanboys. Not criticizing the leadership on the forum, nor am I telling you guys what to do, it's just a suggestion.
Anyway, thanks for getting back to me Charge. I'm still waiting for a new Zune device, just like everyone else.

This site isn't owned by anyone here, it's owned by another company, who bought the rights to a "Zune Website" and there is no way I have the power to ask them to change that.
It woud be a brand new website, and they are hard to get off the ground.

Well that blows... okay then. I guess I'll just ride out this wave for as long as I can. Hopefully they will release a new Zune and we will get a nice influx of new members.
I think it may seem even worse lately because of people going on vacation (I just recently got back) but I know I would leave if this turned into an iPod/blackberry/android/whatever forum. There is still a good amount of Zune help threads being created, this is the largest hub for the few creators of homebrew Zune apps out there. I think zb is good for a little while yet.

A forum should consist of more than a help thread, and Zune development has basically come to a stand-still.

True on both counts, though the software side of Zune development is still going strong. And there is still a fair amount of random threads that have absolutely nothing to do with zune (though pretty much all of these are made/posted in by the small group of "regulars")

I tried my best to make exciting and useful stuff for the Zune, but I really do not have the time anymore. I just started a full-time job as a game programmer at Behaviour in Montreal so that will probably take up most of my time. However, there is a secret project that I was working a while ago that I will post for anyone who wants to finish it. Hint: It is from the 90s. Also, do not ask when I will do it. It will be sometime within the next couple of weeks.
Sorry to hear that things aren't going well with the website! I came across this site as I have newly purchased a 32 zune hd. Hopefully I can find some interesting information here my first player of anykind this side of cd style mp3 player. So I am bumbleing around trying to figure it out. Keep your chin up and have a great day!

I just heard the old SEGA boot up noise. SEEGA
