I got an LG Optimus S today when my family switched over to sprint. I wanted a Windows Phone but I didn't have money and the Optimus S was free. So, are there any must have apps?
Dolphin Browser HD,All of the Angry Birds games(they are free on android), Apps2SD, Handcent SMS, TuneWiki, Amazon Appstore, Dropbox, Pandora or Slacker radio, Amazon MP3, Rock Player(Lite or paid version), PowerAmp(paid),Cpu Master, Ringdroid, and Adobe Photoshop Express.
You spelled Android wrong.

Reason: Typo alert.
I don't have money to buy another phone, I thought I made that pretty clear when I said I didn't have money. |Thanks for the help though|
You can get the Samsung Intercept or the BlackBerry Curve 3G or BlackBerry Style.
Believe me, any and all free phones, especially free android phones on Sprint are terrible.

Terrible compared to what? an EVO? Compared to my old LG Dare the Optimus is a huge upgrade and a great phone.

Compared to any phones, in general.
I work in cell phones and we see more issues from those phones more than the freaking Evo.
The Optimus S especially. It runs android on a 600mhz processor.
My BlackBerry that came out a year and a half ago has a better processor than that.
Unless you root it and customize the HELL out of it, it'll run like death.

It runs perfectly fine and smooth for me. I don't need a super fast phone that can play a ton of games, I have a DS and PSP for games.

Thanks for the info. I just got launcher 7 and uber music with the Zune HD theme.
Okay, you MUST root it. Then get yourselves some WiFi Tether for Root Users. Then put yourself an overclocked ROM on it (because your phone runs quite slowly unless overclocked to run faster). I recommend Cyanogenmod 7. It freaking rocks.

CM7 doesn't support the Optimus S...
Alex, The only apps I can recommend is "Extended Control" (costs), Tapatalk and Official facebook/twitter.
Edit: Oh, and if you don't want the windows phone theme I highly recommend ADW Launcher EX or Launcher Pro Plus
also just realize that if you do over clock your phone you will most likely need to take your charger EVERYWHERE because battery life will more than likely take a hit
I would recommend TuneInRadio if you know of a good radio station, also fun to listen to Tagalog radio. And if you like retro games, I highly recomend an -oid emulator (Genesoid, Snesoid, etc.) those run fine on my Motorola Droid 1, so it should run on your phone.

The droid 1 processor, while clocked slower, is highly superior to the one in his phone.
