Hi! I can't find any thread quite like this, so I'm sorry if I just didn't search thoroughly enough.
Unlike most of the threads that I've found on hard drive replacement, my Zune 30's hard drive is just fine, so I know that the Zune itself works. The problem is that I filled it up and wanted a little more space, so I bought a hard drive from a seller on ebay who apparently sells a lot of drives pulled from iPods. The drive is a samsung HS081ha (and has a lil apple logo on it) and I'm on my second one. The first gave me the C00D124F error (yikes). I reseated the cable several times before rebooting it with the old 30 back in (worked fine), back to the 80, C00D124F, of course. I believed that the drive was DOA, so I yanked it and RMAed. The new drive showed up today and I'm seeing the same problem.
My conclusions are one or more of the following:
1 this person is selling bum drives
2 this drive isn't actually compatible with the Zune
3 some sort of firmware update or something actually makes it impossible to upgrade the hard drive (I have NO idea about this and it's just a guess)
Anyone have a suggestion? If people have done this upgrade successfully recently, I'm willing to accept that this is a sunk cost with the guy on ebay (I just need to stop buying any computery stuff from that place-- never goes well) and buying from a legit supplier. But I don't want to throw more money at the problem unless I know that an upgrade is possible.
Thanks and Hi!
