Alright, folks, it's pretty much all finished up. This is the release thread, and version is now 1.0!
New with the release: Keyboard functionality now in-game! Go to the Keyboard Entry Wiki Page on Google Code to find out details (and also see explanations for the other keyboards).
Destruct is likely going to fall by the wayside, as there would be too much overhaul to it to make it worth it (I might as well rework it from the top-down, starting with the original OpenTyrian source code, which I'm not likely to do).
So, from now on, it's bugfixes only (which there should be relatively few of), and perhaps upstream updates from OpenTyrian. Unless someone has just such a fantastic idea that I have to implement it.
Controls: (this is an actual screenshot, by the way).
The big black square over to the left is the trackpad. It is 208x210 in size, a wonderfully big bit (as big as I could get it ).
Each button (except the keyboard and menu buttons) are 90x90. Those other two are 90x40 (so you don't accidentally hit them while trying to use the trackpad).
OpenTyrian is a port of the DOS shoot-em-up Tyrian. Jason Emery generously gave the OpenTyrian developers a copy of the Tyrian 2.1 source code, which has since been ported from Turbo Pascal to C. The port uses SDL, making it easily cross-platform.
Tyrian is an arcade-style vertical scrolling shooter. The story is set in 20,031 where you play as Trent Hawkins, a skilled fighter-pilot employed to fight Microsol and save the galaxy.
BTW, I'd just like to mention that I find it works better for me if it's played held in my hands, and tracking/pressing with my thumbs. Feels less awkward.
after actually playing it, i see my suspicions about the layout were right. i think it would do much better with some sort of d-pad or tilt control, ratther than the thouch scroll deal you have going on now

Oh, come on, guys, give yourselves a little time to get used to it. A trackpad is much more sensitive, more delicate, than a d-pad... D-pad is fixed-input. A trackpad is analog, more like a joystick. Besides, where were you during beta?
And no, no tilt controls. The intricacies of such an attempt are beyond me atm.
Tilt controls were pretty terrible in the scroller shooter that came with it anyways. Touch was precise and accurate (as touch can be), but it did suffer from having your finger over half the screen. This solution works much better.

you could try implementing a control that still worked like a joystick, but at the outer edges had the functionality of a d-pad. i think if done right, it could work quite nicely

Frankly, that idea scares me. I already tried the joystick, and it was trickier (for me) than the tilt controls.
If I feel like it, I suppose I could make another layout that has a d-pad and make it switchable in the OpenTyrian menu... But I'm not inclined to do so right now.

It was annoying to make for Doom, though it was pretty nice when completed.
may you please make it restart when you exit the game? that way it will make it easier to switch to official apps to play/use
Yeah, I'll look into releasing another build, but I'll probably make them separate builds (appropriately labeled) because some people do still like the no restart thing.
