Default Game-enhancement device

A review from cnet was discussing the Zune HD and where it stands. Not as a multi-media device, but more of as a mobile gaming device. They seem to have similar beliefs that we were hearing here as well, as far as the Zune being a great gaming device, seeing as Microsoft has done extremely well with the XBox systems. It also discussed how Microsoft has the best grounds for competing with Apple when compared to Sony and Nintendo (PSP and DS), which seems logical as well. A third point they made was simply that the Zune HD has the games at all. They briefly discussed the pros and cons of the device, but then brought something up that I thought about... A clip-on device of some sort, that gives the Zune HD a physical control and maybe even speakers, yet not being to bulky. What do you think? Could it be something Microsoft could do? Could it be something Microsoft would do? It wouldn't be too difficult, would it? They could just make it a case that slides on from both ends that ends up like a 360 controller, but with fewer buttons.
I've already had a similar idea, as seen here, but I think this would really make it better.
Full article from cnet here

I've thought about a 3rd party accessory that you strap on the back and it has some type of simple lever system so there's two triggers on the back (or top) that, when pressed, it (lightly) pushes down on the screen in a pre-determined area. So you would have thumbs working on screen joysticks and action buttons and two index fingers on the trigger mechanisms for firing and grenades or something.
It's probably complicated to understand. I wish I could make some kind if diagram...

Why are you posting this...when Unreal is showing their engine for Gears of War on the mobile hardware of Microsoft arch-rival?

I always thought a clip-on gaming accessory would look something like this:

Of course, the middle would be the Zune HD, and the case would wrap around it completely. The case itself would plug into the charging port on the bottom, so any buttons pressed would be detected through there so no physical screen presses are necessary. This would bring mobile gaming to a new level if you ask me, especially if MS allows an open app store with 3rd party games. Could you imagine playing Halo 1 on the Zune HD with a controller like this while you wait for class to be over?

I actually made a picture of very ****ty gaming zune a week ago using paint and a few other bad programs.

As I said. I know. Very bad lol. And the design makes no sense, as it connects to the side and somehow works.

I agree with you, it looks like the (failure) PSP GO with 2 analog sticks. But you do realize that that picture is photoshopped right. Just sayin

Oh I know. I Googled "zune xbox mobile" and that was the first result in images. It's definitely no more than a user made mock-up that was made like 2 or 3 years ago, but the idea still remains and makes perfect sense. I really hope they're working on something like this, but I won't get my hopes up. In fact, I really doubt they are.

YES! That's almost EXACTLY what I was thinking of! It could be a two-piece addon that slides on from both sides, and makes the zune the (to quote apple) "funnest" device on the market!
I think we should maybe spam microsoft with ideas similar to this.... microsoft suggestions

Ive always envisioned a device that flips down and has 2 zunepads as the directional pads/sticks and buttons (with triggers on the front)

Then again Ive also thought zunehd should just be able to automatically play any live arcade/indie game you have bought and they should have that marketplace everywhere.... we can see how that has worked out.

Have you ever really thought about the ridges on the sides of the ZuneHD? It'd be perfect for a clip on accessory... maybe that's what Microsoft has been doing for the past 3 months... (that's a joke. Don't yell at me about how much they've had on their plates lately)

How dare you?! Those at Microsoft are working their asses off and the best you could do is support them in their time of need! You should be ashamed!!

No, but seriously, I have thought a lot about the indents on the sides. They almost seem manufactured for a clip-on accessory. Like they were planning to make one for the ZHD, so they put the ridges in to prepare for it. Besides making for a better grip, the ridges serve no purpose at this point, and they scream for a clip-on accessory of some type.

Maybe it could be (almost) like the LG Versa phone, the one where you can buy different attachments to suit your needs. There could be a controller, a keyboard, speakers, and a camera!

That would be sick, but I would prefer an all-in-one attachable accessory thing.

That'd cost a lot. I think each attachment for the Versa is like fifty bucks. A four in one might be around 100. Especially if you factor in the camera (that can take pictures!). A microphone would be nice (for a Rock Band game :] )

Ya id rather do the seperate because your idea seems like a swiss army knife waiting to jump out at ya !!!! Here are my 2 cents for the attachments: controller, keyboard(for those of you who aren't used to touch screen keyboards), portable battery charger, and maybe a external storage system for your music videos movies and games that can connect via usb(the cable that comes with the zune), and nice mentioning the camera, my Xenon has a decent camera but it would be nice if the HD gets a Ipod Nano camera (rolling eyes )

First, they won't include an expandable memory slot, because that would eliminate the need for anything more than a 16gig model. (if you could just buy more memory, then why buy a larger model?)
Second, I think an all-in-one would be better. It would most likely cost less than buying all them separate, and you wouldn't ever have to switch them when you're switching tasks. It just seems better to me.

Also, I think the keyboard would need to be a slide out one to save space.

But, we're speculating on something that hasn't even been hinted at. I think we should stop before we get our hopes up.

I prefer touch screen keyboards.
And for that external hard drive type thing you speak of, why not do the type of thing Sony does with the ps3 and psp? If they're connected to the internet, they can stream music, videos, and pictures from a pc that's connected to the internet. And for the psp, it doesn't matter where you are with wifi, Starbucks, McDonald's, or your brother Vinny's house, you can still stream from that computer at your house.
The Zune Pass works that way, but only with music.

That would be very cool, not gonna lie. I've thought about that too. I think the Zune would have to be associated with only one computer (via IP Address), so that streaming only comes from the computer that you use with the software, obviously.
