Can we use that for anything? I didn't look at it in depth, but I doubt it will help us since we still have the problem of the security key

I ran the DirectMTP for vista (since im on vista) and it didnt find anything, while i had my zune connected. So i ran the MtpInfUp.exe which just basically tells you all the mtp devices on your pc. Anyway, it generates a xml files and here's the Zune's part.
Code:
- <Msg UserText="Zune is a currently active device which belongs to WPD class" CA="1969712" LA="1970290">
  <rti id="3691361879" />
  <ctx id="2850271600" />
  </Msg>
- <Msg UserText="Check if the device Zune which belongs to WPD class is an MTP/PTP device" CA="1973770" LA="1974014">
  <rti id="3691361879" />
  <ctx id="2850271600" />
  </Msg>
- <Msg UserText="This is not an MTP device" CA="1974349" LA="1975148">
  <rti id="3691361879" />
  <ctx id="2850271600" />
  </Msg>

Try using the zune using the generic WPD MTP drivers (like for the WMP *hack*), and try using it again.

If this was for WMP10, it's probably not too much help. I am pretty sure the Zune is WMP11-level code. I don't know if they added the certificate authentication in 10 or 11, but I haven't seen any reference of MTP and certificates together, only of WPD and certificates. I kind of relate MTP with WMP10 and WPD with WMP11.

Well, the Zune is beyond both WMP10 and WMP11, hence why it has its own software. The fact that it is so hard to get it to work in WMP11 (impossible to get it to work independently so far) is a testament to this. Of course it uses some of the same packet structures and such, but the key of death has been added.

actually its not just for wmp10, when you install it some tools have 3 different choices: WMP10 for XP, WMP11 for XP, and Vista
