My xbox 360 is giving me the 3 red lights of death after my friend accidentaly knocked it over and it made a crazy noise and i want to get it fixed before halo 3 comes out... I would rather not send it in to microsoft and wait 4-5 weeks for them to fix it and ship it back
I have read a couple articles online about ppl saying it has to do with the GPU overheating and they applied some artic silver to it and now their 360 works fine but before i go and void my warrantee with microsoft I was hoping someone here might know if it is the GPU or if it is something else causing the problem
I have tried taking it back to Wal-Mart but they said they cant do anything but tell me to send it to microsoft.
One way that works is the Towel trick... but you have to do it every time you play. It's just best you send it to Microsoft. You'll only miss out on about a week of Halo 3, versus 3 weeks after it comes out.
I got the red ring of death on my 360 also, it took only about a week and a half after I contacted Microsoft, to have the new 360 in my possession. That's because they had launched their new warranty plan not too long before. Under their old warranty, yes it would take as long as 6 weeks to get the xbox back, that's because they used to fix the xbox you send in and send it back, which is a time consuming process, but with the new warranty they are not actually repairing your xbox, they send you a new (or refurbished) 360. They keep your 360 and repair it so they can send it to someone else who gets the red ring. Don't worry about storage, you don't have to send in your hardrive, so you won't have to start all your games from the beginning.
So, if you contact Microsoft immediately, you should have it back by 1 week after this coming friday, yes that is after Halo 3 come out, but at least you'll get to play it on a like new (or possibly even brand new) 360.
When the Microsoft rep came into my store, he informed me that the 3 rings mean that a piece of the processor physically fell off, and that is what caused the problem.
I've had customers say that they've gotten their 360 back in 2 - 4 weeks when they told Microsoft (and one even had his replaced with a 360 pro [if it's true anyway] ).
I case modded my Xbox (Opened up and spray painted) so if mine breaks now it's dead, no mroe live for me. Of course, I dont mind losing live anymore. Ive literally met 30-40 TKers this week and even Halo 3 wont convince me to keep live when it expires next year.
