So here's the same thing, maybe from the original reddit post, that outlines it a bit more clearly, with links to Microsoft to get the firmware.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Zune/commen..._be_installed/

nope. mine was beta. ferrango reedited my post doing more research . i done the way that worked for me. im glad that he had the zuneprod.xml idea ;D. i did in page 3 a rar package with fully compatibility in win 10 + "portable" version of abyss server. posted before ferrango . i cant say that he stole my idea because he found another way . its lots easier than mine i must admit :3

long live zuneboards and reddit ;D

The Zune software verifies the integrity of the firmware I think... So no

Unless it can be worked around, which it can if it doesn't seek Microsoft out

MD5 hashes are unique to every file so if even the slightest bit is modified then the md5 hash will change... You'd have to modify the Zune software as well... WAAAAAY too much work...

It's not impossible to be done though as most make it out to be.

It could be done if we still had Netrix and some of the original devs... None of us have any experience with Zune modding except for maybe Charge and he's out of that field... the Zune is dead, XNA is dead, OpenZDK is dead... I couldn't even install OpenZDK 3.1 on my Windows 10 PC... And when i did the OpenZDK app wouldn't recognize it... Face it... It's over...

You have to download the entire Windows CE 6 from Microsoft... Mount the ISO... And dig through the installer to find control.exe... It's basically control panel for Windows CE 6... Probably won't work but if it did/does... Imagine the possibilities... Nothing amazing but still...

I have the file but I recently updated to Windows 10 and even though I installed XNA Game Studio 3 and 4 OpenZDK still refuses to recognize it's installed and won't load so I can't load the file deployer or any other OpenZDK app :/

XNA seems to be dead as far as developement goes... Everyone's moving out to all-out 3D gaming... So it seems Microsoft never bothered to check whether it would work for Windows 10... Or even if it does OpenZDK can't tell... I might play with the files a little bit to see if I can get it to work but otherwise: NO ONE WITH WINDOWS 10 CAN USE OPENZDK... So if that's a problem don't upgrade to Windows 10
