Default frankenstein zune error 5

So my buddy has a zune 30 and the screen cracked, as a result he lost control of the zune :/

So i had an old 120g zune lying around with a broken hard drive, you can probably see where this is going, we took his HD and put it in my old zune.

it comes up with error 5 contact support like i expected but when i try to do the 'factory reset' the back+up to reset and immediately back+play+middle/up it comes up with the 'please wait' but then clicks and restarts, and back to error 5. If i continually hold it i'll continually click to restart and come up and click and restart again until i release it then it'll finally come up with 5.

It may be good to note that my batter is probably SUPER low because it hasnt been charged in a good year or so. Maybe simply letting it charge up a bit and resetting it is the answer?

Any ideas on how to wipe this zune and make it usable?

You can try charging it, but I'm pretty sure Error 5 is catastrophic hardware failure, and I don't recall anyone ever getting a device back into working order without replacing that hardware.
