Default Maximum The Hormone (Japanese band)

I have known about Maximum The Hormone ever since I heard them on Death Note. However recently I Started to search for Japanese music to download and came across them again, now they are my favorite band at this moment.

They are a strange mixture of pop, punk, funk, metal and hardcore rock. Normally I would consider the type of vocals this band has (the screaming parts) off putting, but somehow this band manages to pull me right in.

I just wanted to know what you guys think of this wonderful band?

Listen to at least 1 minute where it goes to rock.

The whole emo and rap look in this song is just a joke.

awesome bass in this song.

Listened to these guys religiously for a period of about 3 years. I love the way they sound, and their lyrics are really well done.

Good stuff. Glad to see other people listening to them.

the pillows are decent all the songs on FLCL are from them.
there not as hard though and that makes sense FLCL is more comedic, Death Note is just kick ass.

Do you know any other good Japanese bands? Only other ones I have found are the HIATUS, ELLEGARDEN, and Asian Kung-Fu Generation

Do you have Maximum The Hormones new Ep's from 2011? It's called "Greatest the hits 2011-2011" It's pretty good. Here is a song from the EP.

Starts off pure pop (which isn't bad at all) then descends into a self entitled song.

If you liked MtH, try Girugamesh. Versailles is some good symphonic metal. Kissing the Mirror is pure melo-death. UNDEAD CORPORATION plays with pop and metal like MtH, but in a different way, less silly. Kokuyasou is played more like traditional death metal. Stratiotes is melo-death, though less pure than KtM. Knights of Round plays metal like...well, it's a few different styles, from NWoBHM to power to thrash, and all instrumental. IRON-CHINO is similar with a heavier thrash influence. UI-70 is similar. Thousand Leaves plays straight death. UTSU-P uses vocaloids, Hatusne Miku and Kagamine Ren, edited to sing death metal.

How's that?

Haha while searching for that band I found this!

Girgugamesh!!!!!

To be honest those bands aren't really my style. I prefer more Funk/Punk/Hardcore guitar that MTH has. The only metal I have ever listened to before was System of a Down which is Nu metal. I'd prefer more punk, pop-punk or alt rock bands (not opposed to J-pop either if you got some bands to suggest).

Your edits cannot hide from me, and SOAD is by no means nu metal. Disturbed was nu metal, Korn was nu metal, Limp Bizkit was nu metal, Slipknot was nu metal, Linkin Park was nu metal, Papa Roach was nu metal...SOAD was not.

This was a longstanding debate on Wikipedia, at least last time I actively edited there, years ago. It was generally agreed that the nu metal argument was bull**** though. It isn't listed in the main infobox, the sources are books so I can't readily check to see what could compel them to make such claims, and right after that is a quote from Malakian saying he doesn't like the nu metal guitar style. None of the elements fit nu metal. They don't really fit any genre. If I had to pick one I'd say alt metal, but it really doesn't do them justice.

I'd say they fit under hard rock if anything.

You haven't listened to a lot of their stuff. They have songs that are completely pop, punk, hard rock, rap. They're an extremely diverse band.

Yes, yes, back on topic. I should have just called this thread J-rock because that's what it's turning into (or at least that's what i want it to turn into).

I love the pillows. One of my favorite bands. And they have many albums beyond FLCL. My brother got me into them, but getting merchandise is so hard, since it's expensive.
