i have succeeded in importing text files too, but was unable to read them. what file hosting service did you use, or what site did you download them off of?
I uploaded them to my website hosted by zoomshare.com, but I don't think the file host matters.
well, since another ebook import was successful, but ended in my zune restarting, i think i might try something other than dropbox, so i'm looking for some other file sharing service to use (imma try msn right now)
Okay, I've gotten it fully working. You have to import the books individually, but it still works. What I did:
Convert whatever format you have (mobi, lit, etc.) to PDF - THIS IS ESSENTIAL! Using calibre
Now use the previously mentioned in this thread pdf to epub converter
Put it on your local network somewhere or a server of some type (I used my own website)
Point the reader DIRECTLY AT THE FILE INCLUDING THE EXTENSION!
It should take a while, but it'll work. I keep mine awake while importing as a precaution. Enjoy!

I got the above method to work with a few books, but (and I do not know if this is my device specifically or a universal thing) I have to restart the eReader app before I can import another book, else it will just say the import failed.
Ok, so i got the ereader to work at putting my own books on my ZuneHD.
I downloaded a program called DropBox that gives sets up a secure file on your computer that you can access directly from a link. It was pretty easy to use, i found a basic aid at Create Your Own Cloud of Ebooks with Calibre + Calibre OPDS + Dropbox and then followed just the part about dropbox.
My files were already in .epub format so it was a matter of copying them to the folder on my computer, then going to the website and logging into my computer, selecting the file and pulling up the public link.
It's pretty long typing that link into the Zune eReader, and if you mess one character up it won't work, but i got it to work twice with no problems or restarts. So i recommend and did shorten the file name to make it easier for me. And it worked perfectly....now i'm going to go read my books, night all!
i think i could probably find it, its actually getting it to work with the zune thats the problem. despite what the creator said over on abi, i think there is a limit to the size of fiel the works with it, because i have had absolutely no luck at all importing my books, but i did get a little one line of gibberish to work, so i think i am going to try cutting up the file to see if that works.
can someone help me. Im having problems uploading a book. I was able to successfully upload one book by converting the pdfs to epub then dl it from dropbox to my zune. Now when i try to dl another book doing the exact same thing i get "book import fail". I double and even triple check the links. I shortened it to make less mistakes and still doesn't work.

its probably the book-not the links. get a different copy, try a different format, try uploding it in small sections, the list of things to try is endless
I have a question about the app. When you go to the theme menu, you have two options. Once you select them, how do u go back to the main menu? idk how, and i have my books that i want to read. Please reply!
I tried clicking everywhere on the screen, even the top left, and it still won't do anything. I clicked the "e" on the top but nothing. I turned off and turned on my zune but still stuck. Any suggestions? Please help, because i was able to download the books but now i can't read them. Please help, forum!

You use a slide motion to get back to the main menu.
I have been trying for over a week to find a site that the eReader accepts or recognizes and have had no luck whatsoever. I know I am connected to the internet because I can surf with no problem. Every other app on my HD works fine, except the eReader.
Anyone have any ideas why I consistently get CATALOG ERROR?
