Default Brought home Zune 80 today..

So I plug it in to do the software update to 2.5... The software displays the standard message. "Updating your device. Please do not disconnect your device. This might take a minute." How long should it really take? Also, I noticed the Zune screen went from the 'connected' message to the regular start screen, is that right?

When the computer is updating the zune firmware, i've notcied it does quite a bit of strange stuff. Mine even restarted multiple times, so just give it some time and hope for the best.

I thought maybe it just got stuck so I clicked cancel. After disconnecting my Zune, it still has the 2.0 firmware on it, and now the software won't recognize it. It is charging fine though.

Yes, it should be right!
That means it is updated!
Try out your zune and make sure it works right!
If not, re-plug in your zune and try to re-update your zune!
The last thing to try:
try to delete the zune software off your computer and re-downlaod it!
Also try to reset or reformat your zune: heres how:

How do I reset my Zune?

Sometimes a soft reset may be necessary if your player is acting up. You may, for example, be advised by technical support to reset your player as part of a troubleshooting effort.

With your Zune turned on, press and hold the back (left) button and the "Up" button on the control pad at the same time. Your player will reset itself.

How do I reformat my Zune player?

Under rare circumstances you may need to reformat your player. (Typically you wouldn't do this unless directed to by Zune technical support.)

First, press and hold the back (left) button and at the same time press and hold the "up" button on the control pad.

The player will start to reset; as soon as it does, hold down the back button, center button, and right button at the same time.

Your player will then inform you that it is deleting all media on device, and your Zune should revert to the "way it was" when you first pulled it out of the box - except that you will lose the pre-loaded content. There's no workaround for that one... yet!
I just got a zune 80 after having a 30!
I hope this helps!

If you have no success, I'd try a firmware clear (Play+back+left) while the zune is restarting(on the loading screen) then plug in in, go to settings, and update the device via that.

Nothing worked so onto your method soccerfreak. It reset everything, I go to device update on the settings but I get the message "To view this setting, connect your Zune." Doesn't make sense because the previous step on the Zune was "connect to PC" which it recognized to go to the next screen.

So now I am stuck on step 2: "On your PC open the Zune software and restore the device firmware."
