I was involved in a car wreck today and I was not at fault. I was stopped at the light when some ****** hit me from behind. I called the police and got his insurance and contact info. The police gave me a paper with all of his insurance stuff but when I called his insurance company the said that his account was canceled about a month ago. What can I do to get money to fix the bumper of my car and can I get the police involved because he lied to them about his insurance?
Update:
The guy got what was coming for him, a $4,000 ticket for not having insurance and he has to pay for my $1,000 bumper. Next he has a fine of $500 for lying to the police.

Agreed, and he definitely is at fault...
You could go back to the police and tell them that his insurance account is closed. They might be able to help.
Yeah try copy and paste, how many other forums did u post the exact same message.
I wouldnt of known it was the same person(had to have two different screen names didn't you) if you wouldn't of had the exact same post. Title and all.
Oh wow $500 is steep, but you shouldn't have to pay $500 for that since it is not your fault. The police report should be enough proof to show. Chances are you wont get much out of the guy anyway seeing as he cant afford insurance. So check all of your options first before jumping to sue. Remember that if you due sue him there are fees for court and your attorney, so minus the fees from the little amount you are likely to receive from him and think about it.

In this kind of case, make sure you have ALL of the paperwork that he gave you. Contact a lawyer and ask for his advice. Do not hire him unless you are actually sure you want legal represntation. Keep in mind tho, lawyers do not perform in small claims courts.
if you DO have uninsured motorist coverage then your insurance will cover some of the damages. However, does your neck hurt? Are you in cronic pain from the accident? Are you having to go to the doctor for pain cause by the acident *HINT HINT* Then punitive damages and medical bill damages can be awarded if you go to the hospital soon. Otherwise i would definatly ask a lawyers advise on this matter.
There is one more thing, the guy that hit me was military and you have to have car insurance to get onto the base. Can I go to his commanding officer and have him take care of it?
For that crash, and not having insurance, he will automatically have to serve time in "Military Jail" for sure. and on top of it being his fault, not having insurance, you could get, depending on how much he has, quite a bit of money out of him..... To answer your question, yeah I would go to his commanding officer as well. he will find out eventually, and if he finds out by the victim it could possibly make it worse for the defendant/the guy who hit you.

Here in WA, if you get hit from behind, IT IS AUTOMATICALLY the person who hit you's fault, no questions asked... Even if the person in front of you throws it into reverse and plows through them... STUPID WA.
