Wolf discusses her new book "The End of America", already on the New York Times bestseller list. The book identifies ten classic steps common to all dictatorships -- including those of Mussolini, Hitler and Stalin. Alarmingly, Wolf makes the case that each of these ten steps is occurring in post 9/11 America today. The book is a call to action for young and concerned Americans and this interview intimately frames this important discussion.

What do you think? A crazy lady, or is she on to something?

This book seems interesting.
I'd have to read it before really judging whether or not she's crazy.
Though I do believe that history is condemned to repeat itself.

yeah, i agree with that, I mean, it's been proven over and over right? What makes us so different? But then again...the US is and never was like ANY other country before right? That's why people come over HERE, because we're DIFFERENT. I guess we'll just have to wait and see huh?

Wilhelm Reich wrote about this in 1933.

Fascism stems from the far extreme liberal view and only differs from Communism in that it has a different name and Communism is at battle with any ideal that is not it. While Fascism seeks to eliminate a scape goat that causes problems from their society.

Both parties are going further and further into a quasi-socialist, communist, fascist left leaning. You have Obama uttering "New Deal" philosophy, a philosophy of dictatorship praised by other dictatorships of its time.

The common misconception is that if you go far past conservative you end up with Nazis...but instead you end up with people so unwilling to pass new laws that they are in fact anarchists. Going the other direction ends up with Communists, Socialists and the more extreme, more violent and worse Nazi / Fascist / Dictatorship state.

The difference is, she has engulfed a lot of conspiracy theory into her ideology making her less believable and not making enough sense. Missile in pentagon, Katrina, Blackwater, etcetera, she misses the effect of the New Deal ideology and where fascism stems from.

You never know... could happened. But yeah people need to stop saying that...you know the saying. You keep saying something is going to happen...then it will. But yeah end of america? No..oh yeah my teacher has this book on the "lists of books we might read/discuss in class this year" in our classroom. Would hate to read this, sound's boring...

I know. No one knows when the world is going to end, and certainly we won't just find it on ZB here. People need to actually start using common sense and stop believing every bit of BS that video had.

There's a reason you only find people who will say "the world will end in 2012" on ZB, and not anywhere else. It's because the video was posted here! If it was actually believable, it would've been heard about elsewhere.

The only way the world would end with America, is if Bush launched nukes all around the world as a final way to ruin everyone's lives.

I don't think she is crazy, but I think she is "forgetting American history" and only focusing on linkages to try and prove her hypothesis.

She seems to have dismissed similar actions that were taken by Roosevelt during the great depression, by the US right after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, by JFK during the Cuban Missle crissis & cold war, and even when Nixon took the US off of the "gold standard" during the early 1970s.

Yeah, their may be some similar actions, but the US has done these before, yet we are still a republic.

After thinking it over for I while, I've decided that this lady is crazy. Examples she gave in her book were no where near as extreme as the examples she gave with the Nazis, Stalin, etc.

Also, Bush will be out in two years and McCain and Obama (not Hillary) are capable of fixing any problems.
