college gossip website

I saw on the news yesterday this website called Juicy Campus and its a forum where people from colleges and universities all over the country can go and spread gossip, rumors, jokes, and hate about other people.

is it just me or is this COMPLETELY wrong?

i mean can you imagine how bad this will make some people feel......and do we really need more school shootings.

I think the government should go after this site and shut it down. I know its free speech but you can only have free speech if it doesnt hurt other people, which this site definitely does. I mean the RIAA is spending so much money and effort going after pirates and int'l govts are stopping torrent trackers all the time...why cant they stop this?

Actually, if somebody is being put down, and their full name is mentioned, a case can be brought to court.

Speech is free to an extent that it does not interfere with the free speech of another individual.

Its really sad, first they have suicidal websites where people encourage other people to kill themselves, then this online version of fraternitys and sororities that the OP makes sound like cyber hazing.
Sucks that is true.
But if that is the case then they should-in my opinion-get rid of all these sites that allows extreme cyber bulling for a long period of time including the extremely popular sites.

sad. I feel really bad for the people being picked on. ya know? I mean, no doubt some of the people that they're talkign about are complete poopy-heads. . . but still. dont be mean, guys! c'mon ^_^ lets be happy.

try yelling fire in a movie theater and tell me how that works out for you. free speech only goes to a certain extent so long as it doesnt hurt anyone. a lot of the stuff said about the students on that site uses their names and it can potentially hurt them professionally, especially if employers start looking at the site.

what the hell kind of business do employers have being on a site like this?

I don't know, i mean, it's hurting their rep you know....but I don't think that it should be stopped. Maybe they should make it so that they don't use full names but dont take down the site you know?

Any employer who uses Juicy Campus as an way to check up on their employees isn't a company anyone should want to work at in the first place.

if ppl want just gossip they can go read celebrity news.....college students should not be encouraged to gossip and hate on each other even if full names are not used.

i mean, there's ALWAYS going to be college gossip anywhere you go. . you know? [or any kind of gossip, hell, we have gossip here]

but i dont understand why someone would make a site to enforce gossiping.

Gossip is gossip, the only thing thats BAD about the site is it allows people to be lil b!tches and post gossip anoynmously, so you can say anything you want without repurcussion.

why would u visit, and in turn support, such a website. i mean ppl will gossip either way, but why create a means for them to do it easily and reach a huge audience doing it ???
