If you can't rip the CD then why does nearly every computer come with a program(Windows Media Player) that can rip the CD pre-installed??? This is ridiculous. Why should I have to pay for a song on the Internet when I already have the CD? This is total bull****, they don't have a chance at winning IMO.

That's bull****. Like Beckerman said, in order to have copyright violation, there has to be actual distribution. And what about our Zunes and iPods and other MP3 players? We spend all this money on them and the cds we buy, and they're telling us we're gonna get sued for putting music we actually paid for on them? So we have to buy their cds like they so desperately wanted, and buy music from paying sites? They're so for the fattening of their wallets, they don't mind ripping off the customers their incomes so heavily depends on. And what the hell are they doing lurking around our personal computers, anyway? And since they're in there, watching our music downloading and cd ripping, how do we know they're not peeping in on other, more personal information--credit card numbers, social security numbers, etc? Between the RIAA and the government, Big Brother tapping our phones and monitering our computer usage, peeping through our windows via satellite imaging and making illegal what we do in the privacy of our own homes (i.e. spanking our nasty little satanspawn of children, having sex with our spouses even if our spouses may not be the of the opposite gender as we are, putting music on our personal mp3 players), is there anything we can keep personal and private anymore?

this is gayer than richard simmons, people are sueing for anything nowadays. Its like me sueing walmart for good deals, dont make no sense. If we purchased the CD we should have a right to rip it to the computer,cd players are dead, and people are buyin mp3 players. So RIAA need to get off their sueing spree and just go after the people who share ect ect,not personal use, dumbass company.

Again, US Law states that you are allowed one physical backup of your data. RIAA is a bunch of assclowns in suits who have nothing better to do than to be assholes.

if i buy the cd, the music is mine to use as i please with in limits. i can put it on my zune, i just can't put it on limewire and share with half the world.

riaa needs to stop causing problems and start dreaming up solutions. i know that i hate buying cds because i'm fueling their ridiculous crusades.

Holy dammit, that means I owe about 2,775,000 dollars at least, and that's just the stuff on my zune. Yay! I have a 2 million dollar MP3 player! Lol, but in all seriousness;

This is stupid, that means borrowing CD's, or even listening to it with the person that bought it is illegal, so you're not allowed to listen to music with friends anymore?

That's right weebl, the RIAA sucks. Besides, some CD's have anti-rip protection, the second newest Foo fighters CD has it

Sorry for the bad quality, but what that little sticker says is
"This CD is protected against unauthorized duplication. It is designed to play on standard playback devices and an appropriately configured computer (See system requirements on back), If you have questions or concerns visit www.sunncomm.com/support/bgm"

So pretty much, you can't Rip it.

Lol Screw the RIAA. Screw CD's in general, they are dead, completely dead. The only reason someone would buy a CD is to put it on their MP3 player.

These assholes are just pushing it further and further. They don't even give a **** about customers that are buying CD's everyday instead of opening up Limewire and downloading 500 more songs. I figure they might have now given up on the downloaders, now they are sparking out at those who purchase things perfectly legally and rip them to their computers.

Soon they might sue all the online places to buy music, and sell CD's for 30 dollars and put two CD's in and say "WELL ONE YOU USE FOR YOUR CD PLAYER THAT NO ONE HAS ANYMORE AND THE OTHER IS FOR YOUR COMPUTER!"

there has been less and less of a reward for legally getting content and a bunch of people who describe "work" as making charges like this. Fun fact they distribute 90% of all music sold. We help these asses when we purchase a cd.

soon they'll sart suing radio stations for not stating the name of the artist and the name of the song after each song for "not giving credit to the artist". IMO this has gone way to far... The Rich stay rich and the Poor stay poor.

The RIAA is one of the biggest things I hate about the US... them and any other copyright/illegal downloading laws.

When I think of school, it makes me laugh. They have this plagiarism presentation every year and they're like "Plagiarism is copyright infringement! You wouldn't want to break the law!!!" and I'm sitting here with 700 illegal songs and probably $3 million in charges of movies and television shows.

Funny how life works.

The real bottom line is the fact that artists are losing money. But, lets be honest, how many of these new artists are as good as the older ones? The record companies sign these cookie cutter bands, squeak every penny out of them that they can, send them on their way and do it all over again.
I cannot tell you one new rock band from another or country for that matter, they all sound pretty much the same in whatever genre that they happen to be in.
When the record companies start signing bands that are worth the money for a cd, then maybe people will buy them again.
