Lightbulb Forcing Zune connected mode

Has anyone been able to force the Zune into it's connected mode?

Maybe by finding the proper resistor (similar to making the charge icon appear when using non-zune chargers) to add to the cable?

I was thinking yesterday (always dangerous, lol) that when the Zune is in connected mode, a registry edit (at least with the 2.5 firmware) is all it took to enable the computer to see the Zune as a harddrive.

So, that should mean, that when the Zune is in Connected mode, it might be possible for a car stereo to read it as a USB harddrive, shouldn't it? Theoretically, anyway... The protocols were all there (again, on the 2.5 firmware), but by the grace of Windows device recognition, without the registry edit, it stayed hidden...

So can we force it into Connected/sync/file access mode?

Exclamation welll...

great idea but theres still the "handshake" to bypass.
even with the registry hack you still (to my knowledge) couldent play music or add music without the zune software.
also just addming a resistor to the cable wold just mean that it wold send electrons at a reseted (lower) level and probly make it so you cant sync/charge with the cable.
if you can find a way to force it into syncing mode so it shows up without a reg hack i will give you massive +reps/...other stuff.
as it stands...good luck

I kinda figured it was something like that... Though, for some reason I remember seeing my Zune in Explorer without the Zune software running... But it was a long long time ago I tried it, so I can't be sure...

Ahhh well, it was worth a shot.

Maybe I can convince MS to unlock it or something so I don't have to buy an iPod, lol.

as for seeing it in exploer that was a hack with the 2.4 software/firmware

MS wont ever (prbly) unlock it simply because they make money of you having to use there software. so like i said before good luck

Yeah, I know they never would...
They want you to buy a new car to be able to do that, lol.

I wonder if it would've been easier to do with the 2.4 firmware...

You are better off just buying a cheap flash drive.

The only problem with that is... They don't make flash drives that can hold all my music, lol.

And a lot of decks don't have enough USB amperage to run a USB powered harddrive...

I should buy another HD for my Gigabeat... I know that should work, lol.

Edit:

Well, apparently, now, they DO sell 64GB flash drives... But at almost twice the price of a similar sized USB HD... Dammit. lol.
