Hack Name:
What It Does: A homebrew program that allows the Zune to sync with other programs without having to do the ZAlternator switch. I don't have Windows right now, so this idea started out as a plan to make it possible to sync on Linux without the use of a full virtual machine (yes, I've done my research). Tips/Suggestions for the H&M Team: It can't be that hard to put a device in to USB mode, can it? If you could get it to come up as a USB device, then it would sync just like an iPod. Sorry if I am creating a huge task, then underestimating it. I've never done any programming. I started to dabble in Python, but then said forget it. Also, I will forever in your debt if you can do this! ![]() |

It does not appear that you have done your research.
The Zune uses MTP, with MTPZ as an extension. That means that files can only be added to the Zune when the Zune software has initialized the Zune to sync, i.e. authentication. Since the Zune software can not run on any form of Linux, this is impossible.
