So i was looking at my broken LG env, thinking "wow, the speakers still work, wonder if i could shoehorn them into my zune case and make some internal speakers." It would function somewhat like the phone does: when you play music without the headphones, it comes out the speakers. When you plug the headphones or fm dongle in, it switches to the respective output source. Think its possible? i know that there might be some firmwire hacking involved, which no one has really figured out yet. Would be nice though.

Yes but i doubt there would be much room to fit the speaker and also if you did you might have to use the headphone jack (unless of course you had lots of time on your hands hand got something like a headphone splitter and wired that all in...). The only part of this that would need firmware is the section where you want it to switch between outputs...
I suppose you could use like box or something that plugs into the Zune and inside has a speaker and has a headphone jack (This is a stretch)
You could easily do this with some soldering, a drill, a switch, some speakers, and some fine grade wire.

I have some old laptop speakers that might come in handy. I will try and make this happen.
if you do it, post pictures, (hint, keep the speakers as far from the hard drive as possible.) and / or Youtube video! I'm interested, and would love to see it.
Well, I was thinking about maybe having the speakers somewhere by the battery, or maybe just mold them into the case. Wouldnt want them to mess up my little brick. But Its a zune 30, so theres a bit of room, and the LG speakers aren't big. I think with a toggle switch that would re-route the sound to the speakers would work fine. The only problem is think these EnV speakers are loud enough? Maybe some old laptop internals would work. Or maybe even the internal PSP speakers? Those are much easier to come by. I just like the looks of these EnV ones because they have a grill and whatnot. I dont know. what do you guys think? If someone figures it out, teach me! I would love to have this on my zune.

Dang. Well im still trying to figure our which pins on the headphone jack do what so i can put a switch in between the jack and the speakers. I already have the speakers put in the case. I"ll post some pics in a day or two. I will say that the speakers are a bit raised because of the room constraints, but it still looks good. And they are on the lower end of the unit near the battery. I might even try to find some sort of shielding that would block the magnetism from the speakers so the HDD will be undoubtedly ok.

Actually this does sound like a good prodject and I'll be looking for a solution taking that my laptop's battery is dead so it's just a very slow, movable, desktop. I'll probably scarp the parts and see if i can get a solution.
yeah, but then you would never be able 2 silence ur zune. i always rip my heaphones out of my zune when i need the music to stop quickly. with speakers, that would make the problem worse.
also, zunes arent meant 2 copy ipod touch.
