Default New Firmware

Why don't someone do what Linux did? Write a new Zune firmware and get rid of all the problems.

Umm.
Only Microsoft can release new firmware.
We don't have the ability to do this.

i think you are slightly confused, linux is not firmware, it is an os, developed for pc's which happen to come standard with wide open doors to whatever os you might choose to boot, not so with the zune, firmware is the equivalent of a military bunker. If we want in, we need to either shell it to peices, or find a backdoor. good luck. (note: games on zune are almost the same as different firmware, i would have to check, but i do not think the zune firmware even runs during games. hmmph maybe one could break out of game mode and into open code. again....good luck)

Im pretty sure he was referring to the Zune Linux project way back, it was never proved except that the couple people developing said it half worked, but since no proof of it was ever given everyone thinks it was a fake.

i think its possible but it wouldn't be very easy to navigate, i mean cmon its a os. but i bought a toothbrush the other day and put linux on it, i only found a few bugs. the screen is a little small. lol you can put linux on just about anything. including microwaves.
