EVEN if we could crack the firmware and all, there is one major problem.

How the hell are you going to control it on a Zune? You only have up, down, left, right, back, play, and center. Thats not enough for good controlling. At that point, it would be faster to go home, log onto your computer, and surf it there.

How do you say that, I have a cellphone with problaby those same buttons, plus the numbers, and it's great for surfing.

You could always use a virtual keyboard or an attachment.

To have an attachment... Needless to say, would be impossible at this point. We'd need to break the firmware, write our own, create our own attachment, write firmware for it, and then some how distribute it.

While yes, there could be a virtual keyboard, but how are you going to click on links besides hitting tab a whole lot of times? Sites like ZB would take a long time to navigate via tab. Also, what about flash/java/ect applications?

Also, this is all *IF* we could hack the firmware, which at the moment, we can't/haven't.

Exactly

7 buttons is not enough to browse the internet efficiently
Even if they did make a web browser for the zune i would not use it

Honestly...buy a laptop.

If you can't afford a laptop, you don't deserve to surf the internet on your zune.

On top of that, I only have one thing to say.

Bad idea is bad.

some of the stuff you said is the same w/ the iphone. It has has a virtual keyboard etc. idk about flash and that type of thing but incorporate other ideas from other devices with the same "flaws" or another step beyond immpossible make a zune exlcusive site that the zune would only work on and have support for mail and downloading stuff i.e songs and videos... They could be user added and requested.... but anyway back to sanity this will take some time to accomplish

If you could set up a pointer system that the directional buttons moved around, and the center button acting as a mouse click I think that would be easy enough to work. And just set a virtual keyboard across the bottom that can be envoked and retracted by pressing the bar, much like how Opera uses its window frames.

This is of course just an idea, and someone would still need to figure out how to crack the godforsaken firmware X_X

The PSP controls work fine for a web browser, the zune wouldnt be all that different. If it becomes possible why not try it?

Except it would be all that different. The PSP has more than double the buttons of a Zune.

You Could make it so that the play button switches the controls of the D-pad between a mouse and selecting keys from an on screen keyboard. It would be complicated but you'd get used to it.

I imagine it would only be useful for stuff like map quest or wikipedia that doesn't require alot of typing.

Actually on the official zune boards the programmers haven't discounted the possibility of some time editing the firmware in order to allow a web browser program.

Its entirely possible in the future.

Question [NOT POSSIBLE] Internet on Zune

I was wondering if it was possible to browse the internet on a zune.

Does it lack the Hardware?
Just need a hack to run it?

Would be cool if it could happen, I also created an easy to use key board, made it on Visual Studio.
